Advertising Clubs on Internet Chess Sites

Has anyone tried advertising their chess club on an internet chess website? If they have which were the best sites to try it on?

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

Perhaps not, but it doesn't seem to be quite cricket for Yorkshire to piggyback their system onto the ECF system. Given that this is Yorkshire I'm shocked!

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

Does the ECF get a fee for its grading system being used in this way? If not why not?

Re: Can you put a value on a game of chess?

Just when I'm thinking that this forum is getting to be a waste of space a little gem like this pops up. Don't keep us in suspense who are the players?

Re: Outcome of membership scheme

Isn't the question to Mike a bit off topic? The thread is about the outcome of the current scheme not what scheme somebody might like it replaced with. Indeed did Mike actually say he wanted to replace it? I'm not convinced that he did.

Re: Outcome of membership scheme

I think when you look at the figures for Gold you are forgetting how many more FIDE rated tournaments there are now. I was expecting to play at the E2E4 High Wycombe event, which I did, so I joined at gold level. I may well not play any more FIDE tournaments this year. I'm sure this sort of scenario...

Re: The ECF Board: Leakgate

I can't see that the ECF is in a position to pursue anything much at all of any nature with so few people in post! That's what people should be worrying about.

Re: Another question about the King's Indian defence.

This is unlikely to work. If he's always beating you it's because he's better at chess than you, not because he knows the King's Indian better than you. Isn't that a bit simplistic not to say defeatist? I can't believe that all players are equally good/bad at every aspect of chess. Surely it's perf...

Re: e2e4 High Wycombe Congress : 12-14 October 2012

Well e2e4 made it plain that they wanted more women at their events by offering free entry for the first tournament. This offer certainly made Penny Wood and myself look at the tournaments they were doing when we decided to enter something last year. E2e4 have a good reputation though so we would pr...

Re: Public Statements

A forum like this has huge positives such as informing people of what is going on in the chess world and huge negatives such as a tendency to be used as a weapon by the disenchanted. If everybody stuck to the issues instead of getting personal it would be a lot better.

Re: ECF membership & clubs' internal games.

Yes I am confident that Andrew was right. For every club that thinks like Roger's example I suspect there will be a multiple of clubs who will now be able to have their club competitions graded who couldn't afford it before. A club in the position of having a lot of players who don't play League Che...

Re: ECF Director elections for 2012/13

I'm very much in favour of membership but if you put up the basic cost of membership by merging the categories and averaging the price then you really are creating a disincentive to people taking up league chess. In those circumstances you might get a head of steam up against membership. I'm sure wh...

Re: GOING FOR GOLD

Looking at the ECF website the new membership list seems to hold 4585 names. What I can't seem to find is the number of people with a live grade.
