Re: 17th Birmingham League Rapidplay

If all 4 sections are Fide rated does that mean that you have to be a gold member to enter?

Re: Gold postboxes

These gold postboxes are a great idea. We saw the one in Alcester Warks, painted in recognition of Nick Skelton the other day.

Agm Papers C16.16 Charitable Status

A very clear paper by Andrew Farthing. I think it would be an excellent idea to take this forward. I particularly like the idea of splitting off the Professional parts of Chess into a new Company. This would make it much more responsive to professional players. An all individual members charitable s...

Re: Publicity Officer

Our local papers will publish articles about our chess club members exploits in the sports pages. We had good publicity last year when Tom Robinson got placed in one of the graded competitons. Mind you the photo that Brendan O'Gorman took of him was so good I wasn't surprised when it got really prom...

Re: CAS case clarification required

Andrew Farthing is hard at work organising the Worcester Chess Congress this weekend so I don't suppose he will have time to come on here at the moment.

Re: Female ECF Council/ Board

I suspect what is holding Sabrinna and Jovanka back is not lack of ideas but lack of funding! Perhaps David's daughters company would like to sponsor their initiatives to improve female participation in chess? It might give them valuable insights into their own industries problems and improve their ...

Re: Female ECF Council/ Board

One thing that is interesting is that we had a new female player last season from an Eastern European country. She was taken aback to discover that in England she would be expected to play almost exclusively in mixed events as where she came from she played mostly in all female events. She found thi...

Re: Female ECF Council/ Board

It's possible that the average scores for those abilities that make a good chess player are lower for women than men. However, I would be surprised if any difference was large. Certainly not large enough to explain how few women play chess.

Re: Female ECF Council/ Board

If more girls were playing chess then those girls would have some others to form a sub-group with! Your argument might explain why the last few girls left playing might give up but not why there are less in the first place.

Re: Female ECF Council/ Board

Since women make up such a small percentage of chessplayers it makes having a woman on the board much less likely. I hope Sabrinna will perservere and find a place as a Director. As to why less women play I suspect time is part of the reason as it takes a lot of work just to get to a reasonable club...

Re: 99th British #Chess Championships 2012

Just added up all the entries on the website. I make it 561 including rapidplay entries of 46. Of course there must be quite a lot being processed, in transit and about to be sent. Does look like it might be one for the record books.

Re: 99th British #Chess Championships 2012

Sounds like it is going really well anyway. It will be interesting to see the final figures as it is a seaside venue and up north. Lets hope it gets the record!

Re: 99th British #Chess Championships 2012

Anyone know what the current entries figures are? On facebook it says that they are going very well but there are no figures.
