Re: DCMS Grant : contingency plans?

Maybe I should have offered to attend (for an appearance fee) to spice things up a bit.....? :) Sadly Scott as committees are as they are you would not fit in, you do things. We both know if you turned up an association meeting they would sit there trying to work out what your on about, namely you'...

Re: A hatchet job on the ECF

Firstly, its very easy to criticise, and very easy therefore to get a sense that all is doom and gloom. We need to encourage the green shoots of recovery from all quarters. Thinking that the ECF should be the font of all initiatives and responsible for all matters chess is the wrong perspective. Yo...

Re: A hatchet job on the ECF

Its pretty clear that there are certain members of this forum who are out to do a hatchet job on the ECF for quite unclear reasons. No matter what is done, a continually negative portrait is being painted. Or am I getting this wrong? And I have to agree with Andrew Martin whole heartly, before anyo...

Re: A hatchet job on the ECF

I believe this whole problem is based around direction. My Child Protection Officer (who is a non chess player) asked, "What does the ECF do at this event?" while we were holding a tournament in Bradford, answer was a simple "Nothing!". The ECF has a base of Members and Organisations as members the ...

Re: Is this interesting

Hi Geoff. Thanks for the comments, but like I said about we actually got the money in August 2009. We have built quite alot with it. These type of articles are more retrospective than they look. As a tiny bit of funding its nice to get but to do any of the real work needed larger amounts are used. T...

Re: Is this interesting

Maybe your right Ernie, no matter what a chess activist does he gets slated. All I can say is most people said its impossible to get this sort of funding, its not its just hard. That and change is needed. As for the council believing in the Renaissance Academy's work, to be honest they don't care, t...

Re: Is this interesting

Well, very basically, £30 per child is not enough to carry out any sort of proper mentoring on a one-to-one level. No one said we were Mentoring 800 children, just 4; £25k is broken up into ring fenced pockets as per ECM thinking. Some covers travel for the kids, some covers cups, medals and cert...

Re: Is this interesting

Chess can help with many things, logical thinking, organisational skills and is traditionally associated with maths. "The target was to help 800 children" "£25k (which we got in August last year)" "mentoring scheme done at a one to one level" "We now have 4 mentoree's" I can sure we can do a few d...

Re: Is this interesting

Hi to you both. Thank you for your comments, I do take alot from from them. This is a "Picture Article" which means they have skated over the top of everything and anything important. So i'll fill you guys in on what it missed. The target was to help 800 children in Bradford North; firstly with coac...

Re: Peter Wilson's election address

As far as I am aware Peter Wilson has done nothing as Director of Marketing. I would also remind forum readers that Peter stood for the International Directorship. I believe that if you were to speak to anyone involved in Channel Islands Chess they would say how fortunate we have been. The general ...

Re: Peter Wilson's election address

Hi All I have found Peter Wilson a good person to have around, he has helped with many (if not all) the publicity we have had for the Renaissance Academy, and helped us stay in line with ECF policy. I know Peter has help many other people around the country too, even helping a young lad in Peterlee ...

Re: BBC Radio 4 12 noon the "You and Yours" Programme 5th June

Hi All

Sadly it was pulled at the last minute, this is only possible because the programme is live. I will be informed at some point of when it will be rescheduled. Its a shame, I know it will have put some of you out. I have been told it was pulled off the show due to its length.

BBC Radio 4 12 noon the "You and Yours" Programme 5th June

Hi All We understand there is a few interviews on the subject of Chess, most of them are based around my Renaissance Academy. We just hope it comes across as a drive that may help us all in the Chess world. There is a lot of recorded material for them to use, this means the interviews can be pointed...

Re: Holloid Plastics Press Release : January 2009

BTW I am still and always will be a massive supporter of the project and all who want to volunteer to put their respective hats in the ring. There are NO sets Charles let alone the 250,000 promised and the web site is still not clear on what (if anything) is going on! But the sponsor does say, (aft...
