Re: time limit in counties championships
I would be interested to know whether teams in the counties championships would like the option (by mutual agreement of captains) for teams to play two matches on the day (i.e. play a faster time limit and thus be able to play a second game with colours reversed)? I don't like the idea, but I don't...

Re: Grading order in League Chess
Bradford running playing strength order system with no guidance. We did have a situation once where the highest graded player turn up ill with flu, so we lowered him down the team order, he was 140 and he lost to a 50 grade. We where asked about the team order but the opposing team captain had agree...

Re: Good Players Play Less Chess
I think good players go off and play in different things, I was talking to a 200 + player in the local league and a thought he had near retired, but he had played a Yorkshire league match on the Saturday, then a Yorkshire match of the Sunday, and also started his hand at the corresponance chess. So ...

Re: An average of 10 people use this forum (if not less)
Well coming upto a week and since I first posted this message and we have reached the average. I think all the points raised are valid. I suppose I am surprised that there are not more discussions going on as chess could do with a bit of a boost and there are plenty of hot topic areas that could be...

Re: Free Chess Sets for schools
One thing that hasn't been mentioned : by providing all this free equipment, what thought was given to chess retailers who are struggling to stay afloat and who partly rely on equipment sales for income? If you attack the fragile chess ecosystem, it will shortly break down. I must admit that as The...

Making Tournaments To help Juniors Become Adults
I have been using "Blended Tournaments" to help show Juniors the young adults (Heros) who play in the adult league. We started in March and made 4 new teams inside that time to now. "Blended Tournament's" are made for under 25's and show that stronge players play in the adult leagues and thats where...

Re: Does chess have any morals?
As a League Team Captain I will comment. I think its bad management but sometimes if a better player can be found and it benefits the team then it might be needed. When I have had this same situation I have talked to both players and given the agreed player first choice on who plays. Thats the only ...

Re: Free Chess Sets for schools
Hi All My first post and I get to waffle straight away. Andrew Martin is right that this is a massive undertaking but no-one gets a chance like this ever. When Peter and Gerry contacted me about moving these sets and boards I didn't realise how big this was. Scale for everyone: a football pitch 6 fo...
