Undertaking CRB checks

How do people undertake CRB checks for adult helpers at Junior Chess Clubs?
We used to use a local charity but they have stopped operating this facility.

Re: U18/13 County Championships 2008

.. and Surrey had about 40 players unavailable due to GCSE/A level exams, and various other commitments.
Good to hear that 19 teams played. I think it must be quite a while since that many played.

Congratulatiosn to Kent who I hear won both the ECF U18 and EPSCA U11 on the same day!

Re: An average of 10 people use this forum (if not less)

I was equally frustrated that the SCCU had decided to hold 8 county matches that weekend, when it was free in the previous year. I have spoken to the person who organises the matches and I understand his concerns about lack of calendar space but considering that the other Essex tournaments do not c...

Re: British Junior Championships

There is always a tendency for strong juniors to 'play up', by age and grade. When I played in the U21 championships (abolished long ago) the best U21s were playing in the main event. The same is true of the British Championship - not many of our best grandmasters enter it! You'd find even with a se...

Re: Resignation Rumours

I am currently planning on starting up a Junior friendly club in my hometown, but I won't make it solely for juniors. I would welcome adults, and I would make sure everybody has equality, so that neither party pushes the other one away. The mixing of juniors and adults is the best way in my opinion...

Re: Production and project update

Our secondary (grammar) school has told our local link primary schools about the Chess for Schools project. One of them has signed up, and asked us if we can help. We have agreed to supply a 6th former (grade about 90) to go in and help run a chess club (we have done this before with local primary s...

Re: Shock new ECF appointments

"As soon as a Board meeting can be convened, a proposal will be voted upon to appoint Chris Majer as a Director until the AGM in October 2008 and to invite him to assume the role of Acting Chief Executive until 31st May and Chief Executive thereafter." http://www.bcf.org.uk/ So following the theme o...

Re: ECF Accredited Coaches

I've been an ECF accredited coach for a few years now and been contacted at most 5 times. But some of those were probably because I ran a local junior chess club (with website), or because I am now the SCCU Junior Organiser. It is good if coaches are accredited, and they should be CRB cleared, but I...

Re: UnRated Players in Rated Competitions?

Having returned to club chess after many years absence I got an unofficial rapidplay rating of 100 by beating 6 opponents. My standard play grade was 169 (the realistic figure). If someone wants a false rating there is not much we can do about it - they just deliberately lose games. For a new player...

Re: New online Chess Club

I've greatly enjoyed Chesscube, having not played much online chess before. I even have a reasonably realistic grading. I have a couple of queries - (1) Why are so many of the ECF club players rated over 2000 listed as being from other countries? (2) How can I easily add more friends? "Yes,one reall...

Re: Free Chess Sets for schools

"They are being asked to request them " No where on the ECF website is that clear. It was clear on my local MP's website, so I contacted his office. They told me to contact the ECF office. I don't think our school has yet been hit in any of the directions you mention. I'll let you know when they hav...

Re: Free Chess Sets for schools

Great to hear that they are good quality sets. :D I see that our School's MP (Tom Brake) has said we should contact him to find out how to get a set. "If any school would like to receive these free chess sets then please contact Tom Brake's constituency office urgently on 020 8255 8155." (http://www...
