Re: Yorkshire grading system
That's reassuring to know Nick. I think moving to ECF grading is inevitable. How quickly it is done is anybody's guess. The next few weeks of Yorkshire local league AGMs will be interesting. I do expect ECF membership numbers in Yorkshire may be rising by the end of summer. It will be interesting to...

Re: Bradford’s Woodhouse team
Hi Martin, Sorry I don't use this forum often but was surprised to see this question. All I can say is we have a lot of players who would like to play for the team but who also have other commitments too. Myself included! Sadly this sometimes means we have wildly differing strengths of teams availab...

Re: NCCU CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2017-18
What a dedicated committee they must be to keep this unloved and unwanted competition going for over 20 years.
Your inane rhetoric won't dissuade them from continuing to offer competition to those that want it.

Re: NCCU CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2017-18
Thank you Mr Robertson for your invaluable and positive insight. I’ll be sure to take your calm and reasonable views into consideration when deciding whether to offer to captain a team from my club in the competition.

Re: County Championship Consultation
Thanks Michael. This is a true and embarrassing position the most populous county finds themselves in. Is it true of most other counties too?
Will a dumbing down of the County Open competition really be of value to anyone?

Re: County Championship Consultation
Which Yorkshire respondents have said that? Yorkshire hat (mainly) on for this one. Alex couldn't reasonably be expected to provide names. In theory we should be spoiled for choice in Yorkshire at all levels but our inter club infrastructure is not good and building up a player base is not easy. OK...

Re: Is Merseyside leaving the NCCU?
I am rarely surprised to see the regular snide remarks towards chess volunteers from Mr Robertson. But why do ECF representatives really need to show this is acceptable by joking about it as well, instead of putting him in his place? It is appalling to keep belittling the efforts of others, especia...

It is fine to highlight problems with the membership scheme but would Roger have anything constructive to contribute? What would you rather see being done Roger?

Re: Division Two 2016-17
It does look like group B is stronger than the other. 4 out of the top 5 seeds reside there including Alba who fielded a team with an average rating of 2312. I'm sure Guildford 3 will get stronger through the season too.

So why Mr Pardoe do you propose an already formidable organiser to take over the GM Open team captaincy?

Re: Amusing Pairings
In the Guernsey chess open of 2007 Fred Hamperl, the organiser, was itching to have me paired against Tiger Hillarp Persson to give the pairing Ihor v Tigger. Yes people pronounce my name Eeyore!
Sadly the arbiter could not arrange it in the first 4 rounds and I couldn't keep pace beyond that.
