Re: An Alzheimer's Cure: Chess & Champagne At Simpsons

Mr Bryant has tried to discredit numerous theories and papers from scientists and reputable journalists without being any sort of expert in the field and without a shred of evidence to support this. He's obviously not an expert in the field of Alzheimer research and the evidence points him to be an ...

Re: An Alzheimer's Cure: Chess & Champagne At Simpsons

Peter Farr wrote "Jonathan Bryant has gone through this subject in a lot more detail and with a lot more rigour on the S&B blog. It may not have as much kudos as the New York Times, but that doesn't make the S&B stuff wrong." Is it Dr Jonathan Bryant leading Alzheimer researcher at Oxbridge Universi...

Re: An Alzheimer's Cure: Chess & Champagne At Simpsons

Thanks Chris, I'm aware of the definition but I'm not a scientist. Is it safe to assume that when papers are written by scientists and journalists are quoting them as evidence then so can we? The collective sources quoted above hold a bit more reputation that the Streatham Blog thingy that was used ...

Mr Bryant. Re: Wanted BCMs

Hello,

My club (Bradford Chess Club) was looking to sell a number of bound volumes of BCMs. They are from the mid 1980s through to around 2010. I can check the exact years if you wish but they are in excellent condition.

Re: Standards of Conduct for ECF Officials

Crikey! When I read the ECF website I thought there must have been a murder or grand fraud for someone to be suspended. I don't think Alex needs the money that much. Oh hang on he's volunteered to do a job nobody in their right mind would want to do. Does the ECF really want to give him an excuse to...

Re: Tradewise agree generous funding to assist English chess

It really is great news for English chess. I wonder if Tradewise are looking for an advertising slogan. How about?

"Smart people go with Tradewise. Sponsors of the English Chess team."

I'll be watching the first Thor movie tonight!

David out of interest have you managed to put all your suggestions to work at your own club? What has worked best and is there anything we should avoid?

Re: Proposed county championship changes

It would be good to see a revival in the NCCU, with fresh impetus from that region ...ie, some teams from Durham, Merseyside, Northumberland, Cheshire, Cleveland, Humberside, East & West Yorks.. etc, based on zonal events might work, with a few other tweeks...we`ll see what the new generation of NCC...

Re: Things you might have missed

All very well. But you still finished fifth!

I'll take it as joint 4th Jon.

Yes, if we (Barbican Youth) had had the same sort of team available in the final weekend as in the rest of the season, I think that the final qualifier would indeed have finished sixth!

All very well. But you didn't!

Re: Things you might have missed

But their second team earned promotion - well, hmm, they gained promotion - to the first division for the first time.

I think you were right the first time, White Rose 2 earned their promotion. We actually beat Guildford 3 in our individual match and finished level on match points with them.
