I'll be watching the first Thor movie tonight!
David out of interest have you managed to put all your suggestions to work at your own club? What has worked best and is there anything we should avoid?

Re: Things you might have missed
All very well. But you still finished fifth!
I'll take it as joint 4th Jon.
Yes, if we (Barbican Youth) had had the same sort of team available in the final weekend as in the rest of the season, I think that the final qualifier would indeed have finished sixth!
All very well. But you didn't!

Re: Things you might have missed
But their second team earned promotion - well, hmm, they gained promotion - to the first division for the first time.
I think you were right the first time, White Rose 2 earned their promotion. We actually beat Guildford 3 in our individual match and finished level on match points with them.

I've not heard about his drug ban Alex but he's a bit accident prone with less resilience than Amir Khan!

Re: Does anyone take bets on chess?
Wasn't there a site dedicated to chess betting for the Olympiad in Tromso?
I don't know how popular it was though. I'm sure they would give you odds for the Carlsen / Anand match if you look.

Re: Media comments on chess
Radio 4 this morning on the today programme. Apparently the Eagle sisters, Angela and Maria, both MPs were on the today programme being interviewed about chess. It sounds as if they were complimentary about chess and claim that one of them was misquoted earlier in the week. Although chess is very mu...

I know at least one person who is playing at the Leeds congress, then traveling to Edinburgh on the Monday to play in the CS Open :) Good news Jon. Re: 3rd Leeds Chess Congress 11th - 13th of July 2014
There were two proposals put forward at various AGMs to unify some of the local leagues time rates. The proposals were to suggest the same local league rates as Leeds (35 move in 1.15 with 15mins to finish) and were put forward to Calderdale (36 in 1.15 + 15) and Bradford (37 in 1.15 + 15) The Bradf...
