Re: February 2014 FIDE rating list
I notice Simon Buckley has been over 2300 for a long while but doesn't have f after his name. Does he need to apply to FIDE for his fm title? Is there a fee to do this?

Re: New Year Honours List
Perusal of the Queen's Birthday Honours List just announced again ignores chess as far as I can see. Are you sure chess has been ignored in so much as not thought of? Has anybody bothered to nominate one of our own for services to chess? If not is it something we want the ECF to address? Just a tho...

Re: Dominic Lawson
I say hats off to Dominic Lawson. I think the chess community should welcome this venture instead of assuming negativity before it has even been broadcast. Let's all tune in to it and show the BBC that there is an audience wanting to hear and see things about chess. Any criticism should be left unti...

Re: NCCU and the MCF
Hi Mick, Sorry I couldn't make it to the meeting on Saturday. It was very late on Saturday morning that we got a call from two of our players dropping out that I felt my priorities should change to playing chess. I had chatted to Rupert on Friday night so I felt the Yorkshire stance would be well re...

Re: NCCU and the MCF
I am hoping to be there tomorrow. I do need to arrange a bit of juggling for the Yorkshire league match to do so though.

Re: Challenger to Carlsen
I think the Candidates will be won by Kramnik or Aronian, both of whom could have a close match v Carlsen Possibly Caruana, Karjakin or even Nakamura will qualify in future Someone in the old soviet school certainly thinks Karjakin has the right credentials. If only for his name starting with a 'K'...

Challenger to Carlsen
Who do you think would put up the best challenge to Magnus Carlsen? This could be for the next cycle or perhaps in the next 10 years.

Re: European Club Cup
I fully agree with you John. The mismatches are what some of the lesser graded teams crave. When else do you get to play a Gelfand on level terms and beat him as Simon Williams did at the previous ECC in Israel. It is an honour to play these greats and apparently Danailov wants to take away one of t...

Re: European Club Cup
Hi Mark, We were so dissappointed to find that the organisers would be unmoved with their late registration policy no matter how much we pleaded and how much logic we tried to apply to the situation. A message that we would definately default a board was not even passed on to the first couple of tea...

Re: European Club Cup
Ihor Lewyk and Rich Archer had no intention of playing and just fancied a week away in Greece which is why they didn't pay the £100 each to register. FIDE's registration rules have ensured that seven players will have a day off they otherwise wouldn't have had! It is only 55 Euros per person to re...
