Re: European Club Cup

Ihor Lewyk and Rich Archer had no intention of playing and just fancied a week away in Greece which is why they didn't pay the £100 each to register. FIDE's registration rules have ensured that seven players will have a day off they otherwise wouldn't have had! It is only 55 Euros per person to re...

There's a problem with small increments as well. If you end up as defender in R v RB for instance, how can you ever claim a draw?
Can't you use the 50 move rule?

Re: Who should the ECF Council elect as President?

Yorkshire Chess has once again conducted exclusive interviews with both candidates for ECF President! I'm sure you'll be interested in what they have to say on a wide range of topics. Interview with Andrew Paulson http://yorkshirechess.org/interview-andrew-paulson/ Interview with Roger Edwards http:...

Neil Graham wrote: The Yorkshire League is already affiliated; it has been made perfectly plain from the ECF that "part leagues" can't sign up; there can by no Division One graded and not Division Five. I'm worried about your understanding on this one Neil. I have recently put a proposal to the Brad...

Re: 2013 Final Stage

I hate to throw this in but I feel I must. Lancashire's Open team captain is Mike Conroy and I'm certain he isn't on e-mail. Alex did you send him a copy of the e-mail you sent to all captains by snail (sorry Royal) mail? If not it may explain why Lancashire didn't ask for clearance. If not I hope c...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

That may be the case Roger. There are many members in Yorkshire who now believe that to be the case.

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

I should also have mentioned the ECF did not consult with any of the Yorkshire officials about this possible deal breaking development.

Andrew Farthing rang our grader the day after the AGM to find out if the vote went in favour of signing the Framework Agreement.

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

If however through malicious intent, laziness, incompetence or oversight the Associations sit on the information or misrepresent it then you have little choice other than to look elsewhere for guidance, and if you misinterpret what you find this is clearly unfortunate. Nevertheless in this case you ...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

Remind us how you financed the Woodhouse and associated competitions in previous years. Did you charge a levy for each player however few games they played and met the ECF Game Fee out of the proceeds? So whilst in the previous season for a ten match league, you had to find £5.80 per board, now so...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

Hi Sean, The Yorkshire league has recently sent bills out to the clubs to collect registration fees. The clubs are responsible for paying the actual fees and the estimated grading fees for non ECF members who have represented them this season. I'm sure our treasurer will be getting a lot of amended ...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

The problem with the leagues in Lancashire and Yorkshire is that they aren't sure there should be a national chess body. Even if they accept its existence, they are quite sure that someone else should pay for it. That is an absurd statement. Have you run a survey in Yorkshire to ask players what th...

Martin. The ECF will be billing the league. It is the Yorkshire league who are billing the clubs to meet any shortfall.

However, there may be a slight differencce with ...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

There are two points that are fundamental to this argument. 1. The ECF have changed their stance. http://www.englishchess.org.uk/?page_id=2 Clearly states that there will be unlimited free grading to all bronze members as well as silver, gold etc. I know a number of people in Yorkshire consulting la...
