Re: Help needed please
I have spent many days at BCM researching for a book that is moving too slowly, (having to read 100 years worth of BCM takes time!), and John and his colleagues have been extremely helpful. Obviously, when I finally finish, the book will contain glowing tributes to those who helped etc.

Re: A new twist on mobile Phones.

Re: A new twist on mobile Phones.
"You seem to be insinuating that "the people making the final decision" may be biased. Aren't you worried about attracting a complaint?" No and no - I'm thinking of an incident in one of the leagues where I was on the committee, where someone foolishly published information about an appeal before we...

Re: A new twist on mobile Phones.
Re -the web host. Emails are covered by copyright, so the web host's concern is understandable. Also the presence of a comment about somebody's honesty could attract a suit for libel, and the web host would certainly be worried if they thought they could be co-defendants! That's why they have terms ...

"Of course we then can get into issues about properly offering draws, etc, which was an issue that could have been an issue in one of our FIDE club championship matches last week. "
And indeed in one of the FIDE League matches the previous week!

Re: Can anyone tell me why Scarbrough second biggest weekender
Having spent a week or so actually playing chess, I feel impelled to comment about something. I don't think 4NCL "serves the interests of 'Watford Gap South'". There are more players from the South playing in 4NCL, but not because it is aimed at them, there are just more players. One thing that put ...

"This is possibly the single most important area the new ECF will have to look at; how to communicate with and relate to the needs of chessplayers young and old all over the country."
Absolutely right - but I would have thought that should have been the aim since 1904!

Re: Proxy votes for CJ, Adam etc
I received a communication from Peter Wilson and he says I can publish this (I have corrected a couple of typos as he wrote it just before dashing off somewhere). "I have asked for a card vote to be taken for each and every position which comes up for election at the Oct. 2009 ECF Council Meeting. I...

Re: En Passant incident...
"Apparently, the player who forgot to remove the pawn when he captured it en passant wanted to remove it several moves later in the position they had then reached, and the opponent objected to this. It seems that neither player knew that they should go back to the position when the illegal move was ...
