Re: ECF Annual General Meeting 13 October 2012

In many walks of life people hold top administrative positions who otherwise do not excell at the grass root activity.. It's my view they can be a menace. CEOs of Companies who don't understand what their Company does or makes for instance. You don't have to be an expert in a game/sport to be able ...

Re: Membership year vs grading year

That's one way to do it. I suspect residual game fee will be small.

Re: Membership year vs grading year

I thought forecast game fee needed to be paid by mid December 2012? If so, one option is to ask clubs to forecast, in November, the amount of games likely to be played by non-members and collect payment up front (and then make payment to the ECF). If in the event (i.e. next May) you find clubs have ...

Re: ECF Membership FAQs

What I'd like to know is which method of payment ensures the ECF get the most money? In addition to grading, the ECF provide support for junior chess and English professionals which, as a supporter of chess, I think is a 'good thing'. I'd like to pay by the method which maximises the ECF's income.

Re: How the ECF is funded

A document to this effect has appeared on the ECF website. It looks as if the ECF now wants to promote MOs, having previously seemed to want to encourage direct on-line joining. • Collection method (Membership) – Broadly, the choices are: ο BULK PAYMENT – Existing Membership Organisations te...

Re: 9 move checkmate

There's this one, which all Dragon players should know, but some don't. 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.f4 Bg7 7.e5 dxe5 8.fxe5 Ng4 9.Bb5+ Kf8 10.Ne6+ 11.Qxd8+ 1-0 The error, as demonstrated by Jon Mestel back in the seventies, is not 6 .. Bg7 as some lazy writers used to tell us, ...

Re: CEO succession plan

I have been very impressed by Andrew's leadership in what has been a very difficult period for the ECF. Regardless of where you are on the membership issue, that Andrew has worked hard and tried his best to get a workable agreement on the way forward cannot be denied. And he should be thanked for th...

Re: January 2012 grading list

The new features are excellent. There seems to be a rogue grader somewhere though as there is a game included that I haven't played! This happened last July as well so I'll have to track down, with Richard's assistance, who is submitting games with the wrong code. The new features do allow you to ea...

Re: ipad and chess?

I'm enjoying the ipad. Only problem is I can't get the pgn viewers (Hiarcs etc) to show the variations in a pgn. It doesn't seem to recognise the variations or offer options

ipad and chess?

My netbook has finally packed up. The delicate hard drive didn't like it when I chucked the netbook in my bag and carted it around in rucksacks to places like the London Chess Classic, train etc and has finally given up. I am thinking of getting an ipad to replace it on the basis that it has a solid...

Re: Practical Issues with Implementing ECF Membership

One option to put on the table could be to simply insist that all players have to be ECF members (doing away with the £1/£2 thing) and clubs simply provide proof that their players are ECF members by sending the membership numbers. That's one of the solutions. If you consider that one of the prim...

Re: AGM : 15 October 2011

Thanks

So to be clear, from 2012/2013 we are in the Membership model where we pay £12 a season. i.e. no further votes are needed?

The posts here seem to indicate there is more to come? But I think you just mean details of implementation?
