Re: ECF Membership

...Setting aside the Office, support of junior training and junior International participation is another cost drain . In fairness, it should be noted that the John Robinson Trust (JRT) and parents themselves are also major contributors. [/quote] emphasis added Roger It is very easy to selectively ...

Re: ECF Funding - An Attempt to Take Stock

Irrespective of funding options, the reason it would be good for the ECF to have contact details for all chess players is because the ECF could let chess players know directly about things such as changes to game fee or funding rather than relying on it filtering down via a cascade of league and con...

Re: The Funding of the English Chess Federation vote

Interestng if a poll could be set up that all chess players (not just forum members) could contribute to. Then a link could be sent to contacts at all chess leagues and congresses who could forward on to people on thier mailing lists. This would allow a better sense of what the average chess player ...

School chess

I see that there is a charity promoting chess in schools and communitites: http://www.chessinschools.co.uk/ I think this is run by the sponsors of the LCC How does this tie up, if at all, with the ECF initiaitve on this? It seems like the charity has some sponsorship behind it and it would surely ma...

Re: Chess Pairing Programs

For a free bit of software, it is pretty good. If you download the stockfish chess engine (which you can download in ubuntu as an extra when you download SCID) you also have an incredibly strong engine (almost as strong as Rybka and certainly strong enough for any chess player to use to analyse thei...

Re: Chess Pairing Programs

thanks. will have a look. the issue is that SCID has no icon at all. But once you load it up, it's very good and has all the functionality that chessbase has pretty much (and it's all free). The user interface isn't quite as good but if you spend a couple of hours with it, it's great

Re: Chess Pairing Programs

I use ubuntu on my netbook. For chess database and playing against the comp, I use SCID but when you download it through the software centre you won't have an icon, you need to go to the command line and type "SCID" to get it to work

Re: Membership of this list and the English Chess Federation

After about 20 seconds of that explanation, they wish they never asked. The AGM was noteworthy for a relative lack of delegates turning up. I don't know whether this is ignorance or apathy. The meetings are the major opportunity for people to hear these things, and most delegates don't even ...

Re: 2nd London Chess Classic 2010

I went yesterday and really enjoyed it. The commentary is really excellent and the tournaments seem extremely well run. The organisation of the whole event felt very professional and classy. Clearly a lot of money has been spent on the event, but it shows and the money has been spent very well. A fa...

OK - I have had no takers. I'll leave for London around 11am to have a wander before I go to Olympia; so any bids by 11am please.

LCC - spare ticket for Saturday 11 December

Hi

I have unexpectedly acquired a spare Adult ticket for the LCC tomorrow (2pm start). It is available for free to the first person that messages me. If you message me with your e-mail address and phone number, we can arrange to meet up at the venue for me to pass on tomorrow.

Thanks

Laurie
