Re: 2017 King Salman World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 26-30 December 2017

We would not be having this discussion if the event was in the US. That is no doubt true. This is the English Chess Forum, and the fact that players from a large number of less important federations could never get visas would be thought of little significance. That would depend on the poster, I wo...

Re: FIDE Offer to Federations to purchase clocks at a highy reduced rate

Perhaps I'm being naive, but he convinced me that he is just tired of hearing that people can't afford to play chess with proper clocks and wants to bang that concept on the head. I wish him well. I’m sure the area where I’ve played most of my club chess - the absolutely poverty stricken City of Lo...

Re: ECF Agm 2017

The proposed Mindsports Centre in London hasn't really made much progress. The money set aside for the feasability study has been used. Posting partly to second Mick's comments and also for a clarification. The money for the feasibility study - has been used for the study or something else? I have ...

Re: An early Tony Miles game

One my really ridiculous quibble is the size of it.The inside pocket on my denim jacket holds most books but not this one. (can I get an ECF nit-pickers badge for that grumble?) Lack of standardisation in chess book size has long been an irritant for me. An unsightly bookshelf - rather than pockets...

Re: Gold Member Rep.

Honestly, I have given up. I do not agree with the strategy - I believe in a small rather than a large ECF. But I'm fairly sure nothing I write to Ben will make any difference. I think the ECF has reverted to its default position - only organisers get a vote and players should shut up and pay up. W...

Re: Gold Member Rep.

... if direct member reps are not taking up positions why would there even be a suggestion of more votes for those members. Well, as the other Jonathan says (correctly, I think) "Having no one to vote for us at all will not much worsen our representation" If you want the membership to be interested...

Re: Peter Hornsby for ECF : Tomorrow's Candidate Today!

... Peter Hornsby (Peter H) has still not really and directly answered Mick's question, here Agreed In fact Peter H hasn't even come close to answering it indirectly, either, despite saying a fair deal of laudable things about his achievements so far. Agreed (both points). (Where my gold-reps' vote...

Re: Chess.com Isle Of Man Tournament 23 Sep to 1 Oct 2017

Agree with Chris. Really enjoyed today - the first day I've been able to watch properly.

After the joy of Anand's IFE turning into a rook ending I then got Sokolov huddling all his pieces in one corner then BN v king to finish off as a bonus.

Sure - and that’s FIDE’s fault, right? Similarly, what are FIDE’s powers with regard to cheating via computer assistance?
