thanks alex, although that NFL teams don't play each other I already knew. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on whether the scale of variance in programme is similar.

Re: British Championship Thread

but not British champion quality opposition I would suggest What does this actually mean. I totally agree with the fact Howell has had the toughest draw, also he deserves it so much after Turkey. But the fact is you can't claim Conquest winning the title would not be justified because of rounds 1-9...

Re: British Championship Thread

Conq coming back from first round loss would be cracking stuff. I thought that too ... but when I looked at who he's actually played since Eggleston in the first round ... (Eggleston 2341 -) Birtwistle, 2186 + Fitzsimons 2167 + Hawkins 2325 = Constantinou 2264 = Storey 2279 + Sowray 2235 + Gormally...

Re: when should you resign a game?

That's nothing. I once resigned by accident. Thought I'd been mated and stopped the clocks. Turned out it wasn't mate. Not my finest hour. Now this sounds interesting. Any chance you can PM me the game? Geoff Justin found it:- http://streathambrixtonchess.blogspot.com/2007/05/white-to-play-how-did-...

Indeed.

The Conq's had a really soft tournament compared to Howell. It will be a tragedy if Conquest wins tomorrow.

Re: British Championship Thread

It's odd though, you get people who are professional players, who presumably have very good reason to address the problem, many opportunities to do so and all the advice they could want in seeking to - and yet they never manage to do it. Indeed. My conclusion, drawing on my experience working at th...

Re: British Championship Thread

I'd love to know what other people don't do, that I do, which enables them to avoid time trouble. But of course they can't tell me, because they don't really know what I do that they don't... The thing that I did that *really* improved my time management was looking carefully at where the time was ...

what you think about his view? Since you've asked me directly I'd say that:- (a) Definitely agree with Kramnik here. I've observed this in my own games. If I think for 10 mins or more I'm almost certainly about to make a mistake. I've toyed with the idea that should I ever get to 10 minutes thinkin...

Re: British Championship Thread

I dunno. I am scrupulously on time for games which not at all a common habit where I live, but time trouble nearly always occurs anyway. To clarify ... when a person is both routinely late and routinely in time trouble the causes are the same (or at least I'm suggesting that they are) I would add a...

Re: British Championship Thread

So... you've been in two time scrambles on the previous two days. How do you respond to that? You turn up at least 6 minutes late the following day. :? Wells was routinely late at last year's Staunton Memorial ... and chucked many points away in the time scrambles he ended up with in most of his ga...
