Re: Writing down your move......with a giant pencil

Kevin Thurlow wrote:"I'm very sympathetic to the cause of arbiters, and am well aware that players can be a pain."

Arbiting would be a lot easier without the players...
..and easier still without some parents!

Although I do appreciate the sacrifices they make in getting their children to tournaments.

Re: WORLD CUP!!!

John, England to score 99 penalties! How many hundred will they need to take to score that many? Ah its good to see Engurland supporters suffering the way Scots fans have been for years! By the way, is the English education system so bad that the fans only recognise the flag if it has the name writ...

Re: What am I doing?

Now I see the reasoning behind Mr Ruffle's suggestion. It's obvious that CJ only took the job of ECF President on so that he could advertise his products in the forum.

Re: What am I doing?

Also, my invitations to the Frome Congress and British Championships are now in the diary and I'll also be at the Welsh Championships next month too. In addition to the March appointments listed above, I have a couple of meetings with people in the chess firmament to discuss plans for the extension...

Re: Anything this school can do?

Haven't Hollloid Plastics got a few spare sets? I started a similar scheme in a local primary school. I have had 15 sets donated by the Welsh Chess Union (they're old sets that you'd find in analysis rooms not tournament standard sets but they're more than adequate for the job). Are there any clubs ...

Re: South Wales Winter Congress is Cancelled

It's an Ian/Kevin tournament - I just turn up and control 'on the day'. I don't think they will lose too much financially - obviously they've been saved my exorbitant arbiters fees! I go past Chepstow on my way to work in Bristol, and I've not been in since Tuesday. Being self employed that DOES hur...

South Wales Winter Congress is Cancelled

The Congress scheduled for Chepstow this weekend (8-10 January) has been cancelled.

6 inches of snow and sub-zero temps forecast for the next 48 hours have prompted the decision.

Please contact the organisers for further details.

Re: Hastings

by Alex McFarlane » Mon Jan 04, 2010 10:28 am Why does downfloating the top seed give a better pairing? I think most would consider this to be a worse option, but I'm willing to be convinced. (But probably after I've had my flat tyre repaired!!!) I'm sure you always carry a spare tyre around - mos...

Re: Tournaments this week 4/1- 10/1

Note that the South Wales Winter Congress is on 8th-10th January 2010. The entry form link above is out of date. Please use this link instead http://www.welshchessunion.org.uk/events.html Note that Ian would prefer telephone entries over email - broadband and IT are not his thing! I'm scheduled to b...

Re: Hastings

I know when Hogmany was - it's just that this is my first post for a while. Also whilst I was born in England I've lived most of my life in Wales and am therefore an 'honorary Celt'. I'd love to send you a food parcel - unfortunately the venue would intercept it as they are catering for the event. I...

Re: Hastings

Just been looking at the pairings - according to the charts there were 2 rounds on Tuesday, and today has Friday 1/1/2010 for round 6.

Everyone's a critic eh Alex?

Happy Hogmany to ye!

Re: London tournament announcement

Is anyone seeing connection issues to this site today? It would manifest itself purely as a stall or a delay type issue - you might get "connecting" and then it fails? It may also look like a "pause" where you need to say double click something whereas normally a single click would be sufficient? S...
