Re: London tournament announcement

Andy Howie,

now the games are over do you have any (printable) suggestions about how I stop my Inspiron 6400 battery warning light from flashing?

2010 UK Chess Challenge

I've been trying to enter a school for the UK Chess Challenge via this link

http://www.ukchesschallenge.com/

but with no success.

Anybody know why?

Re: Junior 4ncl

A quick couple of things. Yang Fang-Zhou wasn't there, and was replaced by Conrad Green. Hopefully the games now show this. All other games are in similar Round2 and Round3 directories/addresses. Also the TOMA software crashed in so far as the window title bar showed [Not Responding], but the moves ...

Re: Chess in the Schools and Communities Conference (CISCCON)

I was one of the CISSCON Conference Attendees. It wasn't an 'Isn't Chess Great? We must get it in the school curriculum' sort of thing. Sadly it does seem as if it was a one-off. There were speakers from all over the world, all with different stories to tell. These included Susan Polgar and Jonathan...

Re: Clock Rules for SCCU County Matches

I wonder if the clock was not actually set to count moves? That's what we tend to do in the UK. The clock will add 30 minutes as soon as one of the player's times reaches 00:00. We then use the scoresheets to validate the number of moves. Actually if this is what happened then the arbiter should hav...

Re: My Game's 1st Article

I only play cricket on the internet these days :) I prefer swimming and regularly go to playswim.com for practise... On-line swimming uses less chlorine making it more popular with dolphin lover everywhere. When I googled 'dolphin lovers' I didn't get any swimming sites - and my McAfee site advisor...

Re: Live Coverage.

The Barbican 4NCL v White Rose Game should be appearing here http://rs6.blueapricot.com/4ncl/0910/r2/r2/tfd.htm Wilf It seems as though the Sam Collins v Richard Palliser game is not being transmitted as one of the game files seems to be locked in a wierd state - I'm not going to sort that out as I'...

Re: DCMS Grant : contingency plans?

Maybe now that barrier can be broken by the new ECF management. You need to 'sell' the reason to the members. A few years ago the Welsh Chess Union realised that they were looking at financial 'ruin', and that drastic measures were needed. We were looking at increasing our Annual Fee from £8 to £1...

Re: Alternative methods for recording the game

The final part of Para 8.1 states "If a player is unable to keep score, an assistant, who must be acceptable to the arbiter, may be provided by the player to write the moves. His clock shall be adjusted by the arbiter in an equitable manner." So what you can do is provide a recorder, and lose a smal...

Re: Players agreeing to their own time controls (part II)

I'd like clarification on the numbers around the board. I try to set up boards 'correctly' - ie white on a1-h2 and black on a7-h8. What I find slightly tricky in a game is transposing moves where the board has been set up the other way round. If my opponent made a request to switch then as long as t...

Re: More Moderators?

There is currently have an underused forum on the MCCU website. Would it be possible for a club, union or other organisation to have a 'topic' here and have it moderated by one of its own members? In particular, would it be possible for such a moderator to place posts that are poorly related to own...

Re: Latest Schedule

To be clear the live games service hosting I provide to the ECF and other sites is free and without charge ever! I don't believe there should ever be a charge, sorry! I am taking the opportunity to continue my learning of 'the ways of the sensory boards' and on Sunday 6th September (tomorrow) I'll ...
