Re: British Championship Thread

Looks like Hebden could still put Tom under some pressure. If Hebbo gets to 7 and a half!

Re: British Championship Thread

Well Ian any number of reasons. Might not like Richard - although Richard is a nice guy. Maybe adjusting to the outcome of the game - all went wrong pretty quickly. Maybe something outside the game. Maybe doesn't want to start drinking until 20.00 hours - who knows

Re: British Championship Thread

Gormally-Howell is now at move 4 - so hopefully all will be well soon! Incidentally, I played Mike Surtees about 30 years ago in a tournament - then I think he played openings normally. We managed to reach King v King in the QP finish, He played something like Kf5! I replied Kf7 and he said - ah the...

Re: Postal players

Edmund Adam was European Champion at the time of the first World Correspondence Championship. He had not qualified through the prelims - but was admitted on the basis of his title. He played 6 c4 in two games in the finals - vs Purdy and Barda. The game against Purdy is annotated in "How Purdy Won"....

Re: Ladies v Women

Well, this has all been rather tedious (I nearly put very interesting, but I realised I didn't mean it) and I am so glad I didn't get involved! I suspect that you could put the main protagonists together in a room with a beer and they would agree to disagree after five minutes and go on to talk abou...

Re: FIDE grades

Gavin - I played both Karl and Jon when they were juniors and both were extremely talented. I would think that both could have made IM without any difficulty. But, although Jon captains Barbican 4NCL and is the lifeblood behind that club, both have found other things to do. Now since I play - rather...

Re: Scottish Chess Championship 2009

Unless my computer is playing up, the live games aren't working. Boards 1-7 are not there full stop - Boards 8-15 seem to have frozen after an hour or so.
