Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY OFFS

It could have been worse. The 1974 Championship ended in a 7-way tie. Re: British Championship 2008

The results page is now showing Williams-Conquest as a draw, so we can safely assume that Conquest and Arkell will play off tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Hawkins-Gormally is a thrilling R+B vs. R endgame

Re: British Championship 2008

Does anyone know what's up with the last round games? Board 1 began as Williams-Conquest, but now the names are Hawkins-Gormally. The same moves are showing as originally. Board 4 is now labelled Williams-Conquest. Which is the right one? I'd like to know if I'm watching the key game or not! Plus - ...

I can't recall whether the following article has been mentioned on this thread or not (I couldn't see it on a quick skim through):

Re: Using ones own clock

I sympathise with David Robertson and others who would prefer to play with digital clocks. Unfortunately, the conservatism within English chess runs very deep, and the fear of having to cope with something new will keep digital clocks away from the mainstream for a long time. (More practically, the ...

Re: FIDE Rule 10.2 and "by normal means"

This is probably stating the obvious, but for most evening leagues Fischer time controls are impractical because (1) the playing session is open-ended in length, which poses problems for clubs that get thrown out at a fixed time, and (2) many (most?) clubs don't have digital clocks. (At a slight tan...

Re: New grades (split from Editorial thread)

Michele Clack raises an interesting point: will the new grades take account of regional differences? Are there any regional differences? Does anyone have any statistics on this?

Re: Using ones own clock

One issue that does need to be taken into account is the special requirements of blind players. I'm not aware of a digital clock that meets their needs.
