Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Roland, https://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5043&p=242792#p242715 That is an incredible coincidence. The article was submitted about November 2019 (maybe earlier) quite a white before Corona was the buzz word. Just checked again, that is what is printed in the book. (if mysterious forc...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Justin,

Just a wee piece of mild relief with a chess theme - It's not even topical COVID-19 is a virus, not a germ.

Hi Gordon,

All talk of Independence have been shelved till after this virus thing passes.
Reckon it will take quite a while before things go back to normal.

Re: Worrying times

Hi Nick, No problem, Never took offence have a very thick skin and always give benefit of doubt (if any needed) when online. :) Hi Neil Yes that is the program, I knew Bob Hoskins was in it. mid 1970's (gosh time just flew by) recall it has an educational theme. They should re-run programs like that...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Justin,

Suppose if you wash hands before the game it should be OK.

Perhaps sanitise the pieces before every game as well else the term 'poison pawn' could take on a whole new meaning.

Have started avoided cramped positions, Tarrasch said they carry the germ of defeat.

Re: Worrying times

Hi Nick, Not sure about that (me being English!) suspect governments knew how people would react so kept it under wraps as long as possible. We really are stupid. We needed laws to enforce the wearing of crash helmets and seat belts etc. Now this. Was thinking BBC should cancel all these repeated co...

Re: Worrying times

Hi Nick, Twice a week I get the midnight bus home, it is the bus from the airport (No. 300). From December/January the number of masked up Chinese students rose dramatically. Dramatically enough to cause comment by quite a few people. Some were saying it is because Scotland is rife with colds and fl...

Re: Worrying times

Spending my lock in going through the 1,000's of pre-mobile photographs I have. Have been told a few times I looked like Jon Speelman, never really saw it till now. https://www.redhotpawn.com/imgu/blog/1/b4u437199-1584997039.png Actually not a full lock in as I still have to go to work, our taxi's a...

Re: Worrying times

Went to Tesco early this morning to get a lottery ticket and a mobile top up. Got stopped because it was OAP and NHS only hour! (I never knew this was in place in this store.) I showed my bus pass and was allowed in. I was chuffed to tea breaks I passed for a non OAP. Had whole store practically to ...

Re: Worrying times

No tanks as yet rolling along Princes Street but am expecting to see masked paratroopers dropping from the sky....

They will use military vehicles, jeeps and 3 tonners to transport stuff about not tanks.

Re: Worrying times

It's hard to imagine everything returning to normal. (what ever that was?) When I first heard of the ibuprofen rumours I was thinking this was government spread because stupid people with the virus use it to lower their temperature so they can get past the first stage of screening. I'd like to think...

Chess Merchandising

Hi, Over at Red Hot Pawn (where I am greenpawn) I have branched out and have dipped my well clipped toes into Chess Merchandising. Did I just say 'well clipped toe' you will need one of these. https://www.redhotpawn.com/imgu/blog/1/b4u437199-1584192666.png Greenpawn Nail Clippers, as well as a sock,...

Re: Which is your preferred site for following the Candidates?

Voted other.

The little I'll be able to watch live will be from the chessgames.com site.

I'm not a fan of live commentary. I saw Short and Kasparov team up once. It was brilliant. I'd watch them.
