Re: European Seniors 10-18 February 2010

Sadly Mr Barden you are correct. The the active chess population is aging rapidly. When I visit tournaments all I see is the same people I was playing against in the 70's and 80's. The group of new faces is shrinking. I'm sure others of my generation feel the same. Agree this is an untapped source a...

Re: Media Worthy UK GMs??

I don't get it Alex.

What has an ex-president of the United States got to do with
media friendly chess players?

Re: +++ Live Games +++

Have to admit chessgames.com were a very major source.

Did actually see a post there with the guy saying he no computer
then paste in obvious box analysis complete with 0.09 evaluation.

Also the bloke who knows everyone's grade and nothing else
is on there somewhere.

Re: Media Worthy UK GMs??

King is too snobby. Can we not get out of Oxford? He's like one of those posh trollopes you see on daytime TV wandering around people's tacky houses. Cosy cosy chess won't work. It has never worked before. You had your chance and you blew it yet again. We simply have to shatter this old school tie, ...

Re: Scandinavian Gambit

Hi Anthony.

Correct. You can give advise all day but in the end it comes down to
the individual and how much they want to put into the game.

To get the full benefit and indeed enjoyment of master games you have to
have an inkling of what is going on.

Re: Scandinavian Gambit

Hi Guys. I did not sense any disagreement Tony, it's a chess discussion. We discuss as we play and during a game we are disagreeing with each other's moves all the time. I have had a lot of beginners/inexperineced players going through my hands and when I get them 2nd hand I find there is a lot of c...

Re: Scandinavian Gambit

Hi Alex. I said Stamps and Envelopes. Not email. I was just just making merry with that chap on the telly. (everyone knows email players don't use computers.) ;) Hi Anthony. Of course there is a fair bit of tongue in cheek going on but do not dismiss the value of looking at games played by 1400 play...

Re: Scandinavian Gambit

Hi Jon. Yes it is the games from RHP. Enter your account name and you will see your joys of creation on display. "we (or most of us!) just aren’t in the same league as the masters." Which is good. Look on the bright side. A) We don't know when we are beat. These good guys can see it coming a long ...

Re: Scandinavian Gambit

Hi Jon. This is a brilliant games site. http://www.timeforchess.com/gamesexplorer/ They have 576,549 games (an update coming soon) played by under 1900 players. Never seen the point of looking at Master games. I don't play any. (do you?). We play a different game in a different world to these guys. ...

Re: Illegal move during match - what to do

Hi Dave. Need more details. What was the outcome of the game? Did your guy win? Was he getting beat? Did the result of the match depend upon this game? As captain If you spot something like this you have to think quick. Will stopping the game and making the lad play another King move (touch move app...

Re: Scandinavian Gambit

Hi Jon. Don't take the fluke win down. leave it there so it reminds your opponent. He will be thirsting for revenge and next game play out of character. As Larsen once said, Some games score more than one win. "after a brief and disastrous experimentation with the c6 pirc...." I think there is some ...

Re: Scandinavian Gambit

Hi. By obscure I meant that I played the Scandinavian on and off for 20 years and only once did anybody try to hold the d-pawn with c4. Even then I had to leave the loose d-pawn sitting there till move 6 before White finally 'cracked' and wasted a tempo defending it. E.Smith - G. Chandler. Edinburgh...

Re: Scandinavian Gambit

Hi Jon. Without seeing any of your games * and only going by what you are saying I'd say switching from the Sicilian to the Scandinavian is a backward step. You say you draw a lot of Sicilians so therefore you have equalised and nuteralised the White plus. By tradition When White losses the tug v a ...
