Re: Chess Fighting Cards

Hi Richard. I'm beginning to wish I had never seen that stupid birthday cake that reminded me of the study. ;) I'll refrain from adding the co-ordinatess. I've never liked them. http://chessimg.com/24C.png A simple piece of retro analysis will reveal that Black's last move must have g7-g5 so allowin...

Re: Chess Fighting Cards

Hi Joey. Of course all the numbers are purely random. 1-6 for each category. I just had to make sure I did no doublers to get allow a draw. Re -the double solution (flip board). I've not yet had an email saying that is the solution.......Not Yet. I get very few emails telling me people have solved t...

Name of composer?

Hi Guys. Can anybody help? I would like to help a friend and find the name of the composer of this rather charming endgame study. We have looked in all the normal places on the net. Anybody recognise it? (I suspect it may be the end of a more complex original). White to play and draw. http://chessim...

Re: What am I doing?

I did street survey ages ago. Updating chess is not something I've just picked up. I've been battering my head against a brick wall for nearly 40 years trying to get chess taken seriously. The Survey. I got the players on the Red Hot Pawn & Chess Scotlandto do their own survey and send me the result...

Re: What am I doing?

Hi Earnie, Minor moot point. I did not call tennis and football minority sports. I specifically mentioned Higgins and Fischer as minority sportsmen. "Its not individuals who sell a game its the game itself if presented in the right way" It's the individual sportsman that raise the games profile and ...

Re: What am I doing?

Hi Loz. I'm sure David is a well balanced polite young man and he is without doubt a very good chess player. He came across exactley as you think he would and I have nothing personal against him for being who he is. I just think it was an opportunity lost. A bit of arrogant acting would not have don...

Re: What am I doing?

Hi Justin, On that other link you will read that a players NCP girlfriend said it did not show chess players in a good light and I agree. It was good to see chess on TV and I joined in the campaign to email the boss to get more chess on TV. But it was very counter productive and shows the whole thin...

Re: What am I doing?

Hi Justin. "If I have a better idea then go for it." Never one to shirk a challenge. Format: A 60 minute programme. Chess: The Quick Kill Andrew Martin at the board and he will invite 30 players of all playing strength. The fewer GM's and IM's the better. Club players, the normal guys. Each guest ha...

Re: What am I doing?

Hi Michael, it was great in the late 70's but by today's standard it is way below par. I fear the low quality of graphics and the whole presentation may have the reverse effect. Sometimes you see these 70's football games on the telly. Great games but people only comment on the haircuts, moustaches,...

Re: What am I doing?

Hi CJ I'm sure this has been tried in the past but has drawn a blank. I know they have them, well I have been told they have them. I know Stewart Reuben is also after this collection and I'm sure I can recall him too going down this path and coming up empty handed. Be interesting to know if they do ...

Re: What am I doing?

Hi CJ. Please forgive me if you have been approached about this before. In the BBC archives they have the entire Master Game Series . If you could please see if you can get these released to the public this would be an incredible coup. I have a friend whose wife worked in the archive dept. but she c...

Re: Steinitz as the best player of all time?

Hi James. I too am not convinced with that 40% bench mark. If they achieved that figure by looking at all the chess playing sites and adding up the members then it is obviously false. I am a member of 4 playing sites so I have been counted 4 times. I'm sure many others reading this are joint members...

Re: School Children - Chess Online

Hi Michael,

"My 6-year-old son - who's still a beginner."

In this day with GM's popping up as young as 12 you could say
he is a late starter. ;)

I wish net chess was available when my two were young.
I could not get them away from blasting things on the Commondore or the Atari.
