Re: Reporting of 4NCL in the media

It would be worth checking out what the weather may be like.
He plays like a dope when it's wet and windy.
You will get good odds on him not making the cut.

Anyway this is a chess forum. Why are we talking about stupid golf?

Re: Fritz , Romans etc etc

I'm of the shared opinion that learning via a monitor and
consistant computer use destroys your OTB vision.

You play OTB so you should study OTB with a full size set.
The book and board method has a proven history.

Play as often as possible and if really keen seek out a coach/good player.

Re: Reporting of 4NCL in the media

Someone Quoted: "''The quality and creativity of the games at Torquay has been far superior to last year's tournament''. Blunder Hunting I'd say this year's British far out did last years in terms of daft errors. I'm not too sure about the creativity stament either. Some of the players certainly fou...

Re: British Championship. The stats and of course Crippen.

Forget it - I never take offence at anything a chess player says,
glad someone pointed it out.

But somewhere is a previous Corner there must be a Pallister.
(So where were you then?) :)

Re: British Championship. The stats and of course Crippen.

That is because they are idiots - fixed.

My spell checker changed Palliser to Pallister. (I must have Pallister
on a previous Corner).

I know it's a common chess mistake like Hartson instead of Hartston.

British Championship. The stats and of course Crippen.

White won 149 - Black won 149 and 120 games were drawn.

There were 6114 Knights moves...for more of this utter nonsense,
plus pics, games, blunders and of course Crippen.

Re: British Championship Thread

The pgn is incorrect, 62. Qb6 should be 62. Qd6. . Cheers for clearing that up Peter, I smelt something fishy and blamed Time trouble. I can only go by what the PGN says and after a few of the moves I've seen this week I'll believe anything. Have corrected the latest Corner. http://www.chessedinbur...

Re: British Championship Thread

Just posted lastest Corner. http://www.chessedinburgh.co.uk/chandlerarticle.php?ChandID=354 Have had a response already about Shaw/White game. A few cannot believe that White missed the Queens off move going into a clear won ending. Shaw - White round 6. Black's 62nd. move. Can anyone at Torquay ver...

Re: when should you resign a game?

That's nothing. I once resigned by accident. Thought I'd been mated and stopped the clocks. Turned out it wasn't mate.

Not my finest hour.
Now this sounds interesting. Any chance you can PM me the game?

Re: British Championship Thread

I don't know if you've already commented on this but I was a little disgusted at the 14 move draw between Rendle and Eggleston in Round 8..... Hi James. A wee bitty harsh that one. Disgusted? No. Slightly disapointed perhaps, but fully understandable. This was Eggleston's (and Rendle's) first draw ...

Re: Most moves before any pieces moved?

That bloke uses German shortened algebraic. T = Turm Thank you, but of course I knew that. One of my jobs is to enter games from scoreheets into databases. I sometimes come across British players who, for some reason, record their games in a foreign notation. The Edinburgh player Ewan Campbell uses...

Re: when should you resign a game?

Hi Simon, I'm not saying you should play on in a totally lost positiion but when an opponent does you should not look upon at as a sign of disrespect or ill manners. If you let a minor detail like that upset you then the chances are you may blow it trying to finish off the game too quick. I've seen ...

Another one - now you are using a secret chess notation.

I'm alerting the forum moderator, this has gotten out of hand.

Re: when should you resign a game?

I cannot see why it should be an insult. You should not let anything your opponent plays upset you. He is perfectly within his rights to play on. Maybe he wanted to play the longest game in the tournament. Maybe he was asked to play on by one of the boffins because if he stopped his game the rest of...

Yes but is the 'T' next to the 'R' on a German keyboard?

I think we need to get Teddy Winter in on this one to sort it out.
