Re: Female Player Rule

Hi Alex.

Good point. Will do. Cheers.

Hmmm....

May have slight trouble as some of the good lads may not want to drop.

Ah well all the more room for the other lads.

(Unless can get new rule that new teams start off in div I) ;)

Re: Female Player Rule

Hi Ola Yes so that hardly makes the 'Four Nations' (plus Guernsey) does it. It makes it the European + Guernsey National League. The EGNL. So two choices. We either stop inviting them (ban is such a terminal word) and send their appearance fees to British players (yourself as a resident is classed a...

Re: Female Player Rule

Hi Ola

Let me see:

I say:

"European players who do not live here..."

and you say:

"Speaking as a foreigner who's lived in the UK for 10 years now..."

Looks like we are both out of kilter.

Hi Keven.

Simple. So we call it the 4N + Guernsey CL.

Next?

Re: Female Player Rule

Hi Mathew, No problem mate, have planned twice to make the trip down to do a Corner on the event but other things happened. (but you owe me a pint cos I'm right. ;) However I'll buy you one if tou sac your Queen when I'm down there. Easy to do, these guys are not very good. ) Just having a rant and ...

Re: Female Player Rule

Hi Alan. I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting the SNCL should be compared to the Euro National league (the old 4NCL now the ENL). Mathew must have misread my post and went off into the wilderness telling us the SNCL is not worth while him playing in. I doub t if this was a dig at the SNCL. I...

Re: Female Player Rule

Hi Mathew. Yes the Scottish Website does have a lot of good information. It does not tell you anything about my personal circumstances or my health. And that is a matter I do not wish to discuss in an open forum. Thank you in advance for being so understanding. So to try and drag the discussion away...

Re: Are Chess Traps Really a Taboo

You Sir are a Gent - getting quick losses out of players is like pulling teeth.

Re: Female Player Rule

Hi Mathew. "at the moment there isn't a huge amount of point in me playing, because there are not many strong players taking part." That had me laughing. You were stuck for an answer so you dived for the grading list. "Him I can play....him I can play...Him I can't play." Hilarious. I never asked wi...

Re: Are Chess Traps Really a Taboo

400 and out.

The last Corner was good, but in the last few months it's been getting rather
dry, tepid. Probably me getting old (59 in a few months).

Quit while ahead.

(I'm going to write my masterpiece);

Re: Female Player Rule

Hi Mathew. I was not a making a comparison. That would be unsound as I have only played in the SNCL and not the 'English' one. So to compare one event in which I have played in against an event in which I have not played in is rather silly. So Mathew how many times have you played in the SNCL? :wink...

Re: Report: ECF Board meeting @ Hinckley Island 16th January

So now it's rumour...good.

Hmmmm....

If a potentilal sponsor heard a rumour that there is a rumour going around.

Rumour has it they will not sponsor Chess.

Vote we set up a 'ghost forum' fill it full of nice postive statements.

We can guide rumoured potential sponsors to that.

Re: Report: ECF Board meeting @ Hinckley Island 16th January

Hmmmm... So today I'm sitting in a thread which tells me a potential sponsor was put off by negative remark made in this very forum. In the very same thread I'm reading we have to forget all about Canterbury's kind offer to host and entertain chess players at the British Championship. Let's be off t...

Re: Female Player Rule

Hmmmm.... Mathew Turner quote: "The 4NCL is the single most important event in British Chess." English Chess. Scotland runs it's own succesful NCL. I know some of the Scots lad drop South to play in it but the English NCL is barley mentioned North of Newcastle. (And I doubt if the 4NCL overshadows T...

Re: Are Chess Traps Really a Taboo

Cheers John, perfect. - this one thread is a Corner. (and it will be). Book idea was half a joke but have had encouragement from here, USA including contact from people in the trade. And one from Germany asking where they can get it! (these German lads sometimes never see the funny side.......joke!)...

Re: Are Chess Traps Really a Taboo

Cheers guys. Yes can do things with these games - it won't just be the diagram but the whole game with light leg-pull notes. (in the same vein as the title of the book) You cannot get players setting up positions these days (thank you Fritz). So my job would be to coax them to the critical position ...
