Re: Chess.Com getting sued.

Hi Justin, This was posted on The RHP site in 2009. (i tried it recall it) the criteria is 20 game. 'How to detect engine cheats - a guide' https://www.redhotpawn.com/forum/only-chess/how-to-detect-engine-cheats--a-guide.114715 A few of your games would not even qualify to be examined. After showing...

Re: Chess.Com getting sued.

Using the same technique/software to catch an OTB chancer is not really viable in this case. The game load is different, correspondence players usually have numerous games on the go. The safest way to catch someone at RHP was to look at their game load. If they were playing 30-40 games at once and t...

Re: Chess.Com getting sued.

Hi Justin, You have probably been gliched by a computer making 2+2 = 5. It would not suprise me if the whole message was computer generated. It's possible you triggered the system with the ratings. 19th November 2018 it was 1775 - 10th August 2019 it is 2210. In the old days on RHP that would have a...

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

David's 18....Bd5 3q1rk1/1B3pbp/1p4p1/8/Q7/4B1P1/bP3P1P/5RK1 b - - 0 18 ...after two precious minutes thought was a Candidates or bust move. How is that showing any signs of 'disrespect' to Wang? And David did not sit down to get Alekseenko into the candidates, nor should one care about other player...

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

We all know how hard it is to put the ball over the line when you have a good player on the ropes. Kovalev spent precious 10 minutes when already with foot in time trouble on one move looking for the killer move. Never easy. +14 or whatever means nothing, computers know nothing of time trouble, nerv...

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

The increase in Wild cards was probably caused by so many players who qualified by rating declining to play. https://iominternationalchess.com/players/grand-swiss/organisers-wildcards.html And even if that was not the case what is the problem. Only 3, Isle of Man residents, are untitled. 16 of the 3...

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

HI Justin, "If you don't have any qualifiers by rating there's obviously a danger that too many players who we would like to see in the Candidates don't actually make it there." Ratings got the players straight into the World Cup and Grand Prix without them having to go through a qualifying event so...

Re: Luke McShane - The Spectator

Hi Chris, This was mentioned here a few posts ago and I ambled along to my local newsagent to buy a a copy. The £4.75 price tag is normally a no-no but I'm feeling flush having scored winners in a 8-1, 16-1 and 50-1 each way roll up. The 50-1 was Alexanders Angels (yes picked because of C.H.O.D. who...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi John, Thanks, decoded morse from memory, actually it's hard to read you have to hear or see it rather than read it. replayed sound in my head. Memory and old peepers looking at my post did the rest. But surprised I got C instead of Y. C = -.-. which sounds like 'Charlie-Charlie' and is one of the...

Hi Justin,

No date on cartoon. Caption in black reads: The Joke and Dagger Dept.
Morse code on bottom of cartoon says B.C. P.R.O.H.M.A.T. Artist is Peter Kuper...it's on page 8.

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Justin It's No.9 Oct 2019. I bought it today at the Post Office sending off all my weekend E-Bay sales. The queue was quite long so I grabbed the mag to browse whilst waiting....end up buying it (£3.25) This next pic was sent to me today my one of my world wide spies. I have 100's of them all ove...

Re: Media comments on chess

According to WIki the name 'Nigel' chosen for a new born peaked in 1994 when 447 were recorded. It's just possible that
was the result of a certain 1993 match. (Though Nigel Mansell and Nigel Kennedy were also media hot around about the same time)

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi, The book answer is 'Pawn-Shop-Keeper' but if an answer makes sense then I'm sure that that is OK. Found something very strange. One of the puzzles in the book is this. k3N3/8/4B3/8/8/8/4Q3/4K3 w - - 0 1 In the book there is no Black King on a8. I have to place one here to display the fen positio...
