Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Alex, To be fair I was only the messenger there about the ECF Chess Rules....FIDE Laws of Chess ( I copied and pasted it). (looked plausible..they have their own rating system so why not have there own set of rules to encourage theses empty house rows they seem to thrive on.) The post I used was ...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Roger, "I thought if you were not making any effort to win one could make such a claim." (I said that) "You think incorrectly." Agree, but within reason. I thought there was a fabled 'two minute' rule. Here again I must remind you I have never used such a rule or been involved in it. I know how t...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi John, Agree with everything you say. in the 80's I was instrumental and heavily involved in getting adjournments out of the Edinburgh League. My gripe is that at the top level increments are cutting down on decisive games. Not really the players fault for getting so good they can avoid blunders d...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Roger, I thought if you were not making any effort to win one could make such a claim. But as I would never try such a thing (never tried to clock an opponent.) and wins on time I have had are infact very few. (I can only think of two!) then it's not something I would be too much aware off. Do th...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Roger, More hypothetical situations. 'Let us suppose...' We have had 11 decisive games from the last 5 World Championships. 7 of those came in Carlsen v Anand matches. In three of the matches we got 4 decisive games from 36 matches. These are facts. Something needs to be done. Have Carlsen play A...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Roger,

We are not going to a agree and have gone over this before. I do not want increments at all.

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Roger,

I know the rules and I can also see what is happening. Played 12 Drew 12.

I predicted this would happen back in 2011.

"I'm sorry but this increment of time per move is killing the game."

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Roger,

I think you run more risk of an arbiter stepping in if he feels the need (which after all is his paid job) in a game
with increments because in theory that could go and on and on. Without increments that could not happen.

Re: Media comments on chess

I've done it again....tried to edit a post and posted a new one. Better not admit to it Geoffrey old boy, they will think you are an idiot. Tell a joke. How many FIDE reps should it take to change a light bulb. None - there was nothing wrong with the old light bulb...it worked. The new one is gettin...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Roger, No extra hours after the last one. I said I want 40 moves in 2 hours, 1 hour for 20 then 15 minutes added on to finish the game. That is 7½ max for each game. It was the 1995 conditions, (maybe they had 30 minutes....but 15 minutes is my choice.) There is something going on in the game tha...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Nick, You are fearing extreme cases. I cannot recall any pre-increment W.C. Matches where players are bashing out K&N v K&N to see whose flag falls. I just do not like increments, chess got by without them for 150 years when clocks first appeared. It was meant to raise the level of the game but h...

Re: Media comments on chess

Nothing wrong with the Petrov or Petroff or call it that copycat move that Black plays sometimes. As with all openings it can explode in your face but it does take two to tango. My take on things. https://www.redhotpawn.com/chess-blog/the-planet-greenpawn/the-2018-world-chess-championship--boo.403 L...

Re: Ignorance is Bliss

Just watched it on Catch Up. It was OK just a piece of fun. Any news is good news. The fear of 'draughts' gag because the players were in a glass cube was quite good, very close to the line when explaining Armageddon 'Black wins....so unlike life then. ' If they do get complaints it will be about th...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

Hi Roger, Off the top of my head. 2 hours 40 moves. 20 moves an hour thereafter no adjournments. I will allow you to use electronic clocks but no tampering with increments. (I wonder if these clock manufactures have had some say in this and what goes on so we (I have one) have to buy one.....I knew ...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

Hi David, I might change my mind yet again. You have to be flexible in these things and appreciate those on the inside, the rule makers would have tossed this thing over and over before reaching a decision....Well I hope so. I (we) cannot argue against that sudden burst of media interest when the ra...
