Re: Media comments on chess

Hi John, Thought ' "Bobby Fischer vs the Rest of the World' was OK and 'Pawn Sacrifice' and 'Closing Gambit.' No real complaints, enjoyed all three.' Pawn Sacrifice' took a liberty here and there which was a tad annoying because in the scene where Fischer shows Lombardy how he could have beaten Petr...

Re: Media comments on chess

I watched that 'Bobby Fischer Live' a few days ago. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bobby_fischer_live It's awful. The gist is Bobby wanted and needed his dad so much that chess became the substitute and the game talked to him like a father . (you can hear the game speaking to him during the film e...

Re: Unknown brilliancy

Hi Nigel Agree it's how chess should be played, combo's like that are often seen in the minds of players. This one made it to the board. Chessgames.com made it their 'Game Of The Day' a few years back with more background.and venue details. One punter said: "I wept hot tears of joy as I replayed the...

Re: Media comments on chess

They are playing 'Deep Sea Chess' on a 7 (the seven seas) by 6 (the six oceans) board. The aim is not checkmate but to capture every piece. https://www.redhotpawn.com/imgu/blog/1/b4u437199-1587656348.png White wins as Black cannot avoid losing their last piece. Re: Media comments on chess

They have a live game of Lock Down Chess on the Jeremy Vine show. (ch. 5) They are using a new kind of T.V. notation. 'Queen up two and behind the pawn' and calling a Rook a castle. They are currently here, more moves have been made and some more will appear tomorrow. Jeremy Vine is White. rnbqkbnr/...

Re: Chess Notes - major downscale

Super-Duper-Doo. Thanks Justin, That means, and I've no idea where I got this idea from, I can recycle some of my old stuff and sneak it into future columns. (hide that link Justin and people with short memories will never notice.) Due to the virus I have spent longer than normal on F.B. and have go...

Re: Pre-move -who came up with that idea?

The position in question. 8/7p/p4kp1/8/4rPP1/8/P3RK2/8 w - - 0 1 Firouzja (White) thought Carlsen here would play Rxf4+ so pre-moved Kg3. Carlsen instead played Rxe2+ and Firouzja's pre-move, which was legal. kicked in and Kg3 was played. Full game here' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGCjxC_jmbY G...

Re: Media comments on chess

That may be it Paul, a note from the stem game mentions the Copenhagen game and Stephen King ran with that. It is a remote possibility he saw C.C. (correspondence chess) and mistook it for Copenhagen Club. Played this line a few months ago and following a tip in Estrin's Book I opted for a the piece...

Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Kevin,

Does it say 'Copenhagen' in the book, it was a correspondence game dating from 1965-1968.

Tim Harding mentions that it was voted be C.C. game ever played in 'Chess Mail.'
