Re: Effect of activity on grade changes

I wonder if there could be a slight tweak to the current ECF grading system for over 30 played games per year? E.g. have some sort of a weighted average system. Let's say someone has played 90 games over a year, still using the +-50 for a win/loss. Let's use a 'windowing' system of 30 games. The fir...

Re: Copying and re-selling chess DVDs

What are the names of the ebay shops you bought the DVD's from? Please post details and we can check them out. In Peters's defence, he shouldn't have to list where he purchases his stock from for public viewing. If the sellers are genuine, you are encouraging people not to go through Peter to buy t...

Re: No more e2e4 events?!

Adam, Howard and Sean are good guys. Just a shame someone couldn't compromise.

Re: No more e2e4 events?!

It perhaps was not the wisest thing to have posted on the forum and I apologise to the organisers. I was very bothered to hear that some of the best tournaments organised in the country were being cancelled, and not having a particularly good experience at the weekend exacerbated. I will pass commen...

Re: No more e2e4 events?!

It is Miss Lazarevic, and my opinion of the tournament has absolutely no bearing on my poor performance at it. You will find I am not the only person very unsatisfied with the event.

You're, welcome, however I'm not entirely sure I like being described as intransigent!

Re: No more e2e4 events?!

Given that Sean has single-handedly created some of the most high-quality tournaments available in England, successful for a number of years, it is imperative to find out what has lead to this. Having had to experience the most horrendously organised and administered tournament in my chess-playing h...

Re: Having two separate Grading systems!

That would add to the vagueness on whether it was touch and move, and what happens if an illegal move was made.

Re: Having two separate Grading systems!

You already know my thoughts on the arbiting at the weekend Alex. Using increments as an excuse for it is very weak.

Re: Having two separate Grading systems!

A classic example of arbiting at the weekend. Match decider game of the team rapidplay being played. If one of the players wins it, it wins the competition for their team. An arbiter was approached and asked if he was going to watch the game in case he was needed. His response? "What for? Is somethi...

Re: Web Hosting

If you are going to go for another domain name, go with a provider that gives you free web forwarding, then you're free to get any free web site.

If you're not looking to update the website frequently, I might be able to loan you some space off my account with justhosts.

Re: Copying and re-selling chess DVDs

If you already have paid for a certain good, and you want a copy of it for back up purposes? I see no problem with it. I appreciate there are differences in legal definitions, but suppose the following. Scenario 1: Person A records a DVD and gets £10 per DVD sold. They sell them personally at a boo...
