Re: Copying and re-selling chess DVDs

The act of copying and selling copied DVDs is theft as far as I am concerned. Re: Having two separate Grading systems!

It's 15 minutes. That's why I think it was bit of a con at the weekend. To obtain 15 minutes per player, you'd have to make 59 moves. A brief look at the various chess databases will suggest an average game is far less than 59 moves!

Re: Having two separate Grading systems!

Having just played at the 4NCL "rapidplay" at the weekend, I was somewhat unhappy to hear that 10 minutes with 5 second increments is classed as rapidplay and not blitz.

Oh well...

Re: Having two separate Grading systems!

I thought I would see whether translating Matt's post into an other language (Portugese), courtesy of Google Translate, and then back into English would help the readability of his post. Here goes... Olá a todos, tenho pensado recentemente sobre esta idéia não tenho certeza se ele foi pensado ant...

Yes, and despite being over a minute down on the clocks each due to the arbiter refusing to take the team sheets.

Good luck to him is all that I can add! It would be pretty amazing if he can achieve it.

Microsoft Word. If you do not have the 2007/2010 version, or do not have Word at all, you can download a reader from the Microsoft website.

World Universities Chess Championship Report

Dear All, It is my pleasure to make available a report on the recent WUCC competition, written by Hannah Dale and Sarah Hegarty. They were part of the team of 4 who represented English universities in Zurich. Within the report there is an overview of the tournament, round by round, photographs, and ...

Re: Format of British Chess Championships

9-round tournaments are pretty common these days; 11-rounders are somewhat rarer beasts. I'd prefer them not to be a species driven to extinction. Sure, perhaps tournaments such as Hastings and Gibraltar could accommodate the 11-rounders... but if the British is more inclusive if it's over 9 rounds...

Re: Format of British Chess Championships

As soon as you exceed 32 players, 5 rounds is going to make it very difficult to judge a winner. Make that 20+ similarly strengthed runners in a tournament, and you're going to have joint winners. But, add another round, and you reduce the chances of this happening for 30ish players. It's not perfec...
