Re: Format of British Chess Championships

A reason for considering change is that it may encourage more people to play in the British who normally avoid it because they have to take two weeks annual leave from work, pay for 2 weeks of hotel and avoid other commitments for 2 weeks. Easier to slot it something like the British if it's over 9 ...

Reducing it from 11 rounds to 9 rounds?

Why not simply hold a raffle for the title?
Surely there aren't going to be over 2^9 entrants? 9 rounds should be plenty!

Re: Vote for an ECF logo

If they are drawn up as vectors, then it should not be a problem to scale them. These are proofs if you will, and if one was chosen, my sister would make the appropriate adjustments.

I expect the carbon footprint of the 4NCL, Bundesliga, and similar events would put the chess world to shame.

Re: Online grading list: publication of players' game result

Publish all results. Membership or no membership, every graded game an individual plays, they have paid for it in some way, whether it be through club fees or tournament entry. I don't really understand why providing a print out of grades is a 'member benefit'. Having taken a fee for the grading ser...

Re: ECF Counties Rapidplay Championship - 18th September 201

I haven't played county chess in almost a decade. If Essex needs a spare player, I'd be keen to represent them in the rapidplay... I have no idea who is the chief honcho for Essex though ;).

Re: Instructive, Entertaining Miniatures for Juniors

If you're not too picky about the opponents, I'm sure you can find a vast array of amusing games (no offence intended, mine tend to be the disaster zones, usually self-inflicted!) from FIDE-rated tournaments on TWIC. Southend and 4NCL are two that spring to mind, and search for lower-rated opponents...

Re: British Chess Championships 2010

I think in most situations, if you know you're opponent is going to turn up reasonably soon, then you will want to play him. I know of very few people who want to give up their free time only to win by default. You do also have to be considerate of the tournament/match organiser. If your game is goi...

Yeah, it certainly will be a phenomenal event! With such a line-up, it'll very likely attract a large global audience.
