we could never achieve entries like that because we don't have that many top players, so saying our tournaments should be the same is completely fatuous. Would it be possible to do the Standard play grades after 6 months, like the rapidplay ones? This is beginning to move towards the idea of monthly grades, but without being a massively drastic change.

I'm not sure where they are, if anywhere, but in the U-16's I think Saravannan Satyananda won (sorry if misspelt), James Foster 2nd, so they qualified for the olympiad and the Europeans. As I seem to be one of the few juniors on here, i feel i ought to put in my opinions. The selection tournament run this year was not a secret. A CRB check costs £12 so why not just get it done to be safe? The problem is more the time rather than the money. In that case, the club had asked the parents whether they were ok for their children to be with these people. For our club, there has been a letter sent asking parents if they have any problems with the adults helping the Juniors. If anyone does complain after, it means the club can say "Look, you signed to say it was ok"
