Re: Kasparov vs Ilyumzhinov: the FIDE Presidency battle begi

Can I just correct a few posters about the Darts PDC thing. The split took place in 1993 when 16 players ( From memory it was Taylor, Priestly, Harrington, Lowe, Warriner, Bristow, Wilson, Anderson, Harvey, Lazerenko, Deller, Gregory and a couple of others who I can't remember, I helped to organize ...

Re: Match abandoned

I can remember playing quite a few matches against Holy Cross up here when there was bagpipe practice in the next room. Oddly did not bother us.

There was one match against Bearsden where there was a Choir practice in the building. That was really good to play chess with. :D

Re: Nigel Short about Andrew Paulson, Agon, Kirsan Ilyumzhin

John, I guess the argument goes something like this. The Presidential race between Kirsan and Kasparov could be close. It is rather unlikely than any countries in Western Europe will vote for Kirsan. Of all the countries in Western Europe perhaps England is most likely to vote for Kirsan (or more l...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

A technical investigation I have been doing at work recently got me thinking. I bet when they have been using signal blockers and scanners, they are using 2.4 GHz and 5GHz, no one has checked the 60GHz band which is fairly new. It is very fast but short ranged so would be perfect. Devices already ex...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

T It would then help with plausability rather a lot if you could dream an even semi plausible method for cheating that would have a chance of working at this sort of time limit. Magic glasses with some form of head up display would help with the move notification. How the engine finds out the board...

Alex H >I know of no relationships between brothers where playing one-another results in an international diplomatic incident, or the player being treated as a criminal.< You're lucky. The Akehurst twins had to play each other in the 1984 British U8 Chmpionship. They, or rather their father, caused...

Re: Candidates Tournament 2013

I would guess if there is a delay in transmission, they are using wireless boards. This doesn't happen with the wired ones. I know from talking to Agon at the Grand prix last year, they were keen to use wireless.

Re: The value of the ECF Calendar

They have a BCQ place because all FIDE rated events held in the British Isles which are Open get an automatic place. it is the British Championships after all. Perhaps in previous years they paid game fee (I don't know) though I don't think Jersey has been run for a number of years. Hi Sean, Is tha...
