Re: Worrying times

herd immunity is a complete myth with respect to Corona virus IMHO I am also amazed that the nutty professor aka the chief medical officer in the UK still has his job. IMVHO anyone that has had corona virus will just as easily get it a second time and a third time etc etc look back on my earlier pos...

Re: Worrying times

Re: Continuing Leagues & Established Events Online

I joined Lichess a few days ago and played in an online event yesterday but it crashed so many times it was a torturous experience.

Their servers were struggling to cope with 27,500 games online at the same time.

good site but too many using it now that we are all at home.

Fruit bat pie

Little Jack Wong sat in a corner
eating his fruit bat pie
He stuck in his thumb
and pulled out an eye

Re: Worrying times

don't worry be happy...here is a little poem that I wrote in January when the corona virus was largely confined to Wuhan... Dogs, cats, monkeys and bats. Dogs, cats, monkeys and bats, not meant for the dinner table as now all can see. First came Ebola, then SARS, now Covid 19. One wonders what's nex...

Re: Covid-19 - Suspend Chess Immediately

The UK is approx 8 days behind Italy with Corona Virus. You can check the interactive map here: https://vdata.nikkei.com/en/newsgraphics/coronavirus-world-map/ So that is a pretty accurate indication of where things are going. Some really silly comments have been posted in the other thread on corona...

Re: Chess and Pension Fraud - allegation

Simon Sounds like you were just a pawn in this particular game. Mr. Quillan being the Grandmaster :) The case makes very sad reading for the individual that lost his pension (Mr. Y)...I have followed this thread and heeded the lessons on offer as I am soon going to be eligible to transfer / draw dow...

Re: Direct correlation between ones chess grade and ones IQ?

119 puts me in the borderline top 10%...happy enough with that :D first time I ever took an online test of any kind...(apart from a driving theory test 25 years ago which I passed easily...but I failed the main driving test...another story) but I would imagine the test is open to abuse...anyone coul...

Re: Direct correlation between ones chess grade and ones IQ?

The only time I came across IQ before was about 15 years ago when a friend of mine and work colleague was the membership secretary of Mensa and he asked me would I like to take over the role of secretary? I replied that I don't think I would be clever enough but he explained that wasn't a requiremen...

Re: Direct correlation between ones chess grade and ones IQ?

I reckon the likes of John Nunn and Jon Speelman would have very high IQ test results...(both of whom I have met and are nice people IMO and would talk to anyone) John Nunn - Oxford grad at 18, PhD at 23, and one whom Carlsen said didn't become world champion because, essentially, he was too intelli...

I conclude that there is a direct correlation between a chess players playing strength and their IQ.
And that's science

Direct correlation between ones chess grade and ones IQ?

Yesterday I was reading up on some chess players...Wikipedia...I started with Kamsky, then Kasparov, then Korchnoi. During my research I read that Kasparov is a genius...not just an ordinary genius (IQ 140+) but a super genius. His IQ is 194 which puts him at the 4th highest IQ in the world today an...
