Transport for London chess club - article 4

Calling all past employees TFL is a new chess club and 2013-14 was our inaugural season in 2 London leagues...the Central London league and the London commercial chess league. Article 4 of the TFL constitution states 4. MEMBERSHIP: Membership of the TFL Chess Club shall be open to all past, serving ...

Re: Sean Hewitt resigns

Horton knows bugger all about the stuff he writes about. He has no idea of the real world, nor of the pragmatic approach that a number of the directors took to this whole affair. He knows nothing of the length that Phil Ehr is prepared to go to for his mate Andrew Paulson. He has no idea that Pauls...

Re: Rated players by country

It is believable that the average FIDE rated player has a grade of 2025. Only 20 years ago to even get on the rating list you had to get a grade of 2200. (now it's 1000 - more money for FIDE)

Re: Sean Hewitt resigns

As far as the NED vacancy is concerned, Sean's resignation presumably has come too late to put anything to Council on Saturday? If so, Council would presumably want Angus, if available, as he finished a close third in October's elections behind Sean and Julian It must be incredibly unlikely that fo...

Re: Sean Hewitt resigns

Andrew was in the North East, Birmingham and Manchester late last week for meetings, so having spoken to many Council members, he presumably wanted to talk to Phil about what they said As far as the NED vacancy is concerned, Sean's resignation presumably has come too late to put anything to Council...

Re: Mr Bruce Birchall

RIP I only met Bruce once back in 1993 or 1994. He came up with the novel idea of trying to run graded rapidplays in London for minimal entry fees. There were no prizes apart from a book prize for 1st place which he donated. I remember that there was only an entry of 5 or 6 and that it ended up an a...

Re: Sean Hewitt resigns

Andrew Paulson will be running for ECU Deputy President with the blessing of the ECF council.

As far as I understand it...it's a done deal.

It's called politics.

Re: April 2014 FIDE rating list

Yes its obvious that there is rating inflation! Also of note the decline of players over the age of 40! My peak was at 32 in line with the norm. Interesting bit of trivia I noticed.... Baburin peaked around the age of 34 with a peaking rating of 2601 (from memory) putting him in the worlds top 100 p...

Re: Chess row in Cork

What you are advocating is that this gentleman was quite justified in using the level of force he did - as I said before I do not believe that the end justifies the means. Condoning an individual's actions in taking the law into their own hands sets a very dangerous precedent, in my opinion. The si...

Re: Chess row in Cork

I think you are jumping to conclusions. Gabriel Mirza never assaulted the cheat by punching him as you would like to believe. The Appeal Committee considered that Gabriel had admitted using force against **********, in pulling him out of the toilet cubicle. The Appeal Committee further considered th...

Re: Chess row in Cork

Getting back to the original topic I would like to publically state that Gabriel Mirza is a hero of mine for his actions in Cork. We need more action men like Gabriel and less pussy boys like the whimps on the ICU exec and the ICU disciplinery committee that were dealing with the little cheating b*s...

You are always right Roger [even when your wrong and don't really know what your talking about] Colm, We have come to understand that RDdC: 1. takes the high moral ground on every subject. 2. is always correct (even when not) 3. never admits to mistakes 4. never comments when shown / proven to be w...

Re: Reply to Roger!

Colm has been the most active player over the last 30 years in Ireland and one of the strongest. His views and insight into Irish chess history are fairly accurate in my opinion. Not sure why he is wasting his time here on the EC forum talking about Irish chess ? that said this is an open forum if h...
