Re: The Latest GM/IM Norm Scam

So what are FIDE doing about it? Are they retracting norms and titles when cases of cheating have been exposed?

e2e4 Gatwick congress cancelled at the last minute

I just received this from a friend......... {email published without permission removed from post} a disaster all around by the sounds of it. I know several of the players that had entered and taken time off work, one young player also lost 150 euros on a non refundable air ticket. Surely e2e4 or th...

Re: Chess row in Cork

The boy admitted to cheating. Both the boy and Mr. Mirza were disqualified from the tournament excerpt above taken from official correspondance as you say let the committees get on with it... Composition of Disciplinary Sub-Committees by Jonathan O'Connor (April 2013) Following the statement made ea...

Re: Chess row in Cork

A very hot topic indeed but my initial reaction is to side with the victim of the cheating here. Unless you have been a victim yourself you cannot comprehend the empty feeling you have during a game suspecting your opponent is cheating.... I think Gabriel Mirza is a hero and should be applauded for ...

Re: Middlesex county footage on youtube

Interesting comments and feedback! I accept all the comments here and think Richard's was so far the most in line with the general feedback I have received. I hold my hands up to David and apologise and tonight when I get home will modify the catch line from "and the baby bear said.. who's asleep in...

Re: Sanctions for those proven to have cheated?

Sorry for any confusion Sean The jist of my gripe is with the ECF!!..... sending the kid a Warning Letter...that's what got my back up... You did the absolute correct thing and at least sent out a message that that sort of behaviour will not be tolerated in your tournaments Regards Martin

Re: Sanctions for those proven to have cheated?

Jack... quote...He was ruled to have lost the game and was immediately disqualified from the tournament. That an adequate punishment for cheating in your book?...unquote Of course that is not an adequate punishment...It is a given that the kid knew he would be immediately disqualified from the tourn...

Re: Sanctions for those proven to have cheated?

I heard the story from one of my chess friends last night that a 14 year old junior was caught red handed cheating at a recent e2e4 event... I was told that his opponent became very suspicious of the perfect moves he was playing when he got up from the board every single time that it was his move an...

Re: no recognition for finalists

Detailed response below from my team captain and Middlesex open team captain....Anthony Fulton (19-02-2011) Martin, You have certainly stirred up a hornets nest!!! Your response and those echoing you shows the short-sightedness of the ECF, and yes even if there may not have been too many dissenting ...

Re: no recognition for finalists

good to see some interesting comments on the topic...here is my updated feedback...perhaps more food for thought? so far..... Alex mentioned that perhaps he was of the opinion that such prizes were perhaps only suitable for juniors and that adults ought not to be too bothered about such things. Alex...
