Re: Strongest U13 in England ?

well he seems to be a late bloomer and is only 1 year older than Luke McShane and at the age of 36, Hawkins could be at his peak if you follow traditional thinking and statistics that chess players peak between the ages of 32 and 36 however he might be one of those 1 in 500 that defy the statistics ...

Re: Strongest U13 in England ?

Hi Leonard like I said , his father informed me that they are now living in England. That implies the boy is attending school here and there have or are in the process of settling in England. It therefore would follow that he could change federation to Eng in due course but I am sure the boys father...

Re: Strongest U13 in England ?

I played him a few weeks ago and just played a poor game and was beaten easily enough. B.1 in the final of the Hillingdon K.O. competition. I spoke to his father after the game and enquired if they were returning to Singapore (I lived there for a year in 99-2000) He told me that they were now living...

Re: European Senior Team Championships 2019

absolutely agree with Stewart...its a international representation event and I am sure the players and players from other counties would prefer to be playing for their national team and against a national team be it England 1 or England 2 or England A or England B etc as opposed to The England pawn ...

Re: The Irish International Open 2019

his rise in the chess world has been somewhat meteroic..... a snippet from the Galway chess congress report: http://www.galwaychess.com/galway-chess-congress-2019-report/ It has been a very good couple of months for player X: he won the Bunratty Major (1200-1600) section last month with a faultless ...

Re: The Irish International Open 2019

looks like another case of cheating in an international event. I do not have specific details but I have noticed the following: A 1520 rated Malaysian player was on 3/3 with a rating performance of 3100 after 3 rounds. He then lost the next 2 rounds and has not played any further games. Now when you...

Re: world championship schedule

bring back 1993 type of coverage please :-) grrr! we live in a golden age when Grischuk and Girr do live commentary and people are longing for the days when Carol Vorderman interrupted Spess whenever he started to analyse! only after the game. Was fine during the game and watching on channel 4 in t...

Re: Cheating in chess

Electronic means...I said Electronic device.....is there a difference? ...I have no idea but it has to be some kind of electronic device unless the kid is a telephatic? :) The tournament was set up in a manner to facilitate casual cheating. All the games were broadcast, even the bottom section , so...

Re: Cheating in chess

It is a shame that someone (a teenager) once again has cheated using an electronic device ...also it appears that this has had a huge impact in the u-1850 tournament as he was only caught in the penultamit round 8. The 4NCL are not disclosing how the supposed cheating was actually detected or indee...

Re: Cheating in chess

Might be an idea to redact the names of juniors when these sort of cases arise. When juniors are involved, the cases can be discussed without naming individuals. I agree due to his age I have removed the name. too late it is already up in Google cached memory and links directly to page 30 here on t...
