Re: The Real Deal! 4.5 guarantees £100

I see the cheating topic has reared its head again...unfortunately this topic is not one that is likely to go away and it is good that it is being discussed so that tournament organisers and controllers can try to stay ahead of the cheats and whilst I agree that young players are more likely to be t...

Re: London Chess Classic 2015

Good news about there being a rapid play open again this year... I was shocked to initially see that they were planning to scrap it...that would have been a mini disaster IMO. Anyway looking forward to playing in it again this year and will try my best not to be cannon fodder for the kiddies this ti...

England hold Ireland to a draw in the u-18s boys and girls and the u-14 boys

but get absolutely mashed 5-1 in the u-16s by the Irish boys 4 losses and managing only 2 draws

Come on the Irish lads :)

TfL seek guest player 180+ Silver membership will be paid

TfL will have teams in division 1 of the commercial London league and the Central London league for the first time next season we would like to bolster our squad with the addition of a guest player. The committee and I have agreed that as an additional incentive to joining our dynamic team that we w...

Re: Tradewise agree generous funding to assist English chess

Jack I just returned from a county u-180 semi final where we (Middlesex) beat Warichshire 10-6 and heard from a reliable source that after 5 years the ECF is reinstating trophies for the winners on finals day 4th July. Better late than never and finally a step in the right direction. Who knows? you ...

Re: Tradewise agree generous funding to assist English chess

Jack
I dare say, being an IM that you have probably won many many trophies and medals in your day...however many of the rank and file players that play county chess may never even have won a single medal or trophy.

Re: Tradewise agree generous funding to assist English chess

Thanks Jack shows how long I have been away from county chess...Spin doctor Adam Raoofs comments all that time ago still rankle! but yes to the guys in charge now.... believe me, the members and players that reach the finals want a small momento in the form of a trophy to show that they were champio...

Re: Tradewise agree generous funding to assist English chess

hmmmm I reserve judgement as to how the ECF will allocate these newly aquired funds. It would be a good start to purchase a few poxy trophies for the winners and runners up at the forth coming county finals on the 4th of July. Look after the rank and file members that play county chess up and down t...

Re: Carlsen's challenger before 2020?

why limit oneself to specific Chinese individuals? I predict that there will be a Chinese mens world champion by or before the end of 2020. I remember reading a book titled "Kevin Wickers 200 modern brilliances" several years ago..... there was 1 game in it where an unknown Chinese player had a win ...

Re: IM Colin Crouch

There was a very good turn out for Colin's funeral service and reception. The occasion was upbeat with lots of stories and memories of Colin shared. Colin's brother Richard was suprised at the warm turnout for Colin by the chess community and even thanked the lone non chess player Bill Philips - "th...

Re: Tony Miles...

someone said Miles lost interest in chess during the last few months of his life? I doubt that very much...as a matter of fact I think that Miles was absolutely consumed by chess to a very unhealthy degree to the day he died. As far as I can recall he was suffering from mental health issues but even...

Re: Proposed county championship changes

not really suprised that the county championships is rapidly going into decline... I stopped supporting Middlesex several years ago when the ECF stopped awarding medals and trophies for the winners and runners up. Adam Raoof even had the audacity to come on the forum and fob people off saying that c...

Re: Battle of the Legends: Garry Kasparov vs. Nigel Short

Anyone that missed the live broadcast of the exibition (I suspect a lot of people) have missed one of the greatest spectacles of chess ever transmitted IMHO Only the advancement in IT and media technology has made this possible (no comparision the the demolition job (5.5 - 0.5) that GK did to Tony M...

Re: Battle of the Legends: Garry Kasparov vs. Nigel Short

OMG that was humiliating ...absolute crush...those last 2 blitz games were off the planet...Kasparov finding computer moves and much better than computer moves in seconds. There has never been a player as intense as Kasparov and never will be again...only one word to describe it...unbelievable. The ...
