Re: FIDE ratings and juniors

One way to resolve the problems might be to offer financial assistance to the resolution of any difficulties.

Re: Mindboggling bureaucracy

This is nothing new, just another example of idiocy. School children doing things like dropping litter in the playground are charged with a crime in the USA. Sad really.

Re: ECF National Secondary Schools Co-ordinator

Perhaps we should look to FIDE and ask people to pay a special fee before they are allowed to teach and another fee before they were allowed to promote the game.

Re: Why are junior organisers against ECF membership?

If you state There are undoubtedly good junior organisers out there who are in favour of ECF membership. The problem is that their voice is drowned out by others who are not. Unusually subtle for you there... Present information in a needlessly aggressive and partisan fashion, ignoring contradictory...

Re: Why are junior organisers against ECF membership?

Junior Organisers who are in favour of membership : Zero
Junior Organisers who are against membership : All of them
This is generally the sort of statement you'd expect from a troll, however, that's not to say it is a troll in this instance.

Re: Why are junior organisers against ECF membership?

Perhaps we could see some figures. For n = 1 to 10, what % of junior players do not return to competition after their nth tournament. Obviously this has been already calculated.

... and the composition of the two disciplinary committees has been declared. Let us sit back and see what they decide.
I notice that the official wording is "allegation of cheating", which seems to indicate that reports of an admission of guilt were misplaced.

Re: ECF National Secondary Schools Co-ordinator

The ECF strategy on this is very clear, so the decision should be unsurprising. I'm astonished that this number of posts have been generated by what is such an obvious step. Did those involved really not see it coming?

Re: Chess row in Cork

There is a general question that comes out this, independent of the guilt or innocence of the parties involved. We've probably all come across players that tried to cheat, is the crime of using a computer to cheat that much more severe? It's very high profile and topical, but is it worse than a word...

Re: Chess row in Cork

I would imagine that the ICU would be very careful to avoid any suggestion of discrimination against Mr Girza. Therefore, they will have to remove from their little committees all those who tried to throw him off the executive for taking the wrong side in the NCC fiasco. Likewise, anyone associated ...

Re: Chess row in Cork

Of course, there have been allegations of cheating in the past. For instance, a blind player found his clock time was lacking...
In this world, there is always a way for somebody to cheat.
