Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

I took a look at the page to see what the fuss was about. It does strike me as misleading. If I played in a chess league in England, I would expect my results to be graded. That is what the page says, with my additional qualification about region. It is obviously not the case. So I mostly agree with...

Re: Another election

If you don't like reading what somebody says, then why don't you censor them? If you really must persist in pulling people up on their standard of written English, at least learn to distinguish between its and it's. Otherwise you just look like a petty and childish fool. It's almost as bad as descri...

Re: 100,000 posts - time to assess the benefits

A forum is for discussion, much of it idle. It is not a vehicle for government. A blog is the modern alternative to toilet roll.

Isn't the finish the end of the tiebreak? If not, what happens after?

Re: Arbiter Question

I don't think you are reading what I have written very carefully, but since it's only a forum post, perhaps that is understandable. I did not advocate the removal of the word valid ( alone ) anywhere, and if you have no idea what the Bishop means, then you should probably not mention him in the firs...

Re: Arbiter Question

Valid: I think the definition 'legally sound' was meant. I think 'valid' could be replaced by 'correct' in this context. I don't remember whether that was in place before 1997. Clearly it is not sufficient for a player to claim 'your flag is down!' He might be incorrect. Richard Bates: Does that an...

Why? Do you think his request is reasonable?
For all I know he was taking the piss. That doesn't change the fact that it was a private email, and that there is no need to publish the name or email address. :D

Re: Arbiter Question

A 'valid claim' is not defined within the rules, as can be observed. (It presumably means factually accurate, rather than reasonable but inaccurate.) It is a strange drafting, that the arbiter is able to observe the fact that playing time has expired for either player, but that the players do not ob...

Re: GM Conquest for President?

There is no question of Stuart standing, or not standing. Nominations for President have closed, and the ONLY choice facing council is Roger Edwards, or Not Roger Edwards. Stuart has told me that he does not believe, and I agree with him, that this should be about anyone else campaigning to become ...
