Re: April Council meeting 2019

We propose that the contribution to International Chess from the ECF’s own funds is capped at£30,000 per annum for 2019/20 through to 2021/2022 (for three years) after which it should be subject to review. It is grossly improper to tie the hands of the ECF AFTER 2019-2020. This part of that proposa...

Re: April Council meeting 2019

Not that I have a direct vote but I'm worryingly in two minds about the proposal. While I have a tremendous amount of respect for the Silver representatives who are a party to this proposal; I do also see the hand of those who are pursuing their own agenda against the board. Me and Michael are very...

Re: 5 Minutes on the Clock

2. When I had less than 5 minutes left I paused the clock and I asked someone to write down my Chess moves, when we finished he said this is not a rule in the league Or in any league for that matter. If there's a watching arbiter it's possible that they may keep score but you don't have any rights ...

Re: 5 Minutes on the Clock

What you say is quite correct. However, in league matches with no arbiter present, I think that you can reasonably ask someone to keep score so that you have a record after the game. The person doing this should ensure that their scoresheet cannot be seen by either player. While I agree with all th...

5 Minutes on the Clock

One of my players in my club had this two issue in a league game of chess and wonder if anyone can help with what is the rule 1. When the venue phone was ringing I mentioned someone should switch it off, my opponent looked at me and he said: What can you do... 2. When I had less than 5 minutes left ...

Re: County Chess: ECF Policy of Fines

A number of counties are considering refusing to accept a nominations by their Union, such that the competition itself is under threat. Perhaps, it is time to have a proper debate as to whether the rules need to be revised so that the smaller counties do not feel discriminated against by not being ...

Re: NCCU website down

Just because he has played for Guildford in 4Ncl does not mean he is eligible for Surrey. Plays a lot up north so suggests that is fine. Just wonder where in the north he is based as he has not played a game? Though excellent to see that Lancashire lost 3 matches & Bill lost his game too. :D Well h...

Re: County Chess 2018-19

John has a point about zonal formats..it just needs a bit of county organising. THe MCCU is lucky to have a reasonable number of volunteers to help with this.. Yes, there are challenges.. you need captains and I`d also advocate vice captains who can give some time to team selection and match arrang...

Re: County Chess 2018-19

I guess at least you guys know they you have every chance of winning the national final with the strength of your sides, but most of the genuine minor counties are sick of cowardly open strength teams treating it as a plate event and winning year after year - the reason it is so hard to get captain...

Re: Need some help of what to do?

you have become the Manchester Chess Federation open team Captain. One of the originators on the Lancs side of this forty year old and counting dispute has died, There do however seem to be those in Lancashire who want to keep it going as a memorial. County open teams were at the heart of the origi...
