I think it's the Marshall Chess Club in New York.

Re: 2014 Final stages

Obviously the fact that there wouldn't be a third SCCU nomination wasn't known until the last minute. Although the rules do allow the controller to alter the pairings the slightly lopsided draw seemed preferable to ripping up the whole thing and starting again. Which begs the fundamental question -...

Re: County Championship Rules

You think Bedfordshire should be allowed to behave like that without consequence. Well, you're entitled to your opinion. David, that isn’t my opinion at all. I apologise for misrepresenting you. David, thanks. I think what all the contributors to the discussion agree on is that we all want to see...

Re: County Championship Rules

I’m not sure what the ECF plan to do with any money raised from the fines, but should any be collected could I ask that they consider the reintroduction of individual trophies for members of the winning teams on Finals Day? The intention this year is to have individual trophies for the winning co...

Re: County Championship Rules

You think Bedfordshire should be allowed to behave like that without consequence. Well, you're entitled to your opinion. David, that isn’t my opinion at all. Believe me, this has been discussed at length within Bedfordshire and further afield in the EACU, although it’s not for me to put forward...

Re: Chess Numbers

My game at the last round of the 4NCL was effectively scored 1 - -1 when my opponent failed to turn up.

Re: County Championship Rules

That's not actually the case though. County matches at Union level still have captains and squads. If as a match captain, you are uncertain about the level of support for a long distance match in April or May and you or your Treasurer are threatened with financial consequences if you pull out when ...

Re: Board Orders

Just spotted the thread title and thought it might be a juicy discussion on instructions given to the ECF Board by its President in an attempt to keep them in line.

I was a bit disappointed to see the subject was of a more technical nature :(

Re: Southend 58th Easter Congress 2014

As a regular competitor at this event for more years than I care to remember, one of the problems has always been how to kill time between rounds (particularly since I no longer regard six pints as the ideal preparation for the afternoon round). But as Roger and Richard point out, the new time limi...

Re: County Championship Rules

As I read the rules, every Union should have reported to the ECF in December the number of nominations that they wish to make in each competition. If a Union asks for a nomination and then fails to fill that place it is liable to a fine of £100 for each unfilled nomination. The draw could therefor...

Re: County Championship Rules

It would be more rational for the ECF to wait until the qualification tournaments had been completed before seeking entries to the National Competition. Why the desperate hurry? It doesn't happen very often, but I agree with you. Why the desperate hurry? There isn't one. The draw has to be made in ...

Re: County Championship Rules

The EACU first teams played rounds 3 & 4 (of 6) of our competition today at Newmarket. The captains were asked to discuss which nominations we should request for the Open, Minor Counties and u180 championships at the national stages. The usual process would be that the first placed team is given the...

Re: Union membership question

Herts U-160 team currently competes in the EACU with their other teams playing in the SCCU, so the answer must be yes. The 2012 EACU AGM minutes (recording Herts application to join the EACU) indicate that there is now a restriction that a county cannot enter a team in the same division in more than...

Re: Paris Final: Disappointing Finish

Sorry Kevin you are of course correct. The point I was struggling to make is that when one team agrees to lose and by consequence the other win its seen as outrageous but when both players agree to draw its seen as routine and ok and I can't go along with that as someone may suffer as a consequence...
