Results of the three u140 matches held 1 Dec are now posted on the MCCU site. It is reported that Leics beat Warks in the u100, but there is a dispute about a player's eligibility and full results of this match will be published when they are available.

Re: Adrenaline, Nervous Systems and Psychological Pressure

I guess that everyone feels at least some level of stress when playing a tough game. There is a fair amount of research on the effects of playing chess on heart rate (HR) or other measures of "stress". Chess playing is a useful model for the studying the effects of decision making in uncertain situ...

Dave Thomas has kindly allowed me to post the text he wrote on the MCCU website at: http://www.mccu.org.uk/players/dave_rowe.htm Acting Secretary BD Hopkins of Birmingham Club notes that Dave Rowe's work as club secretary until the end of last season ensured that Birmingham have an unbroken traditio...

Keith is currently visiting Midlands clubs and has copies for sale. At Worcester the other day I think he sold 8 copies. I believe he is in Redditch next week.

Re: County teams 2012-13

The MCCU web pages with the recently amended rules have now been linked with other pages on the MCCU website. You may need to click 'refresh' to see the new pages rather than any old ones stored in your computer. I have added the information I have received about team entries for 2012-13 season. Upd...

Re: Alan Francis Stammwitz b1906-

In my Penguin softback published 1966, a fragment (moves 26-33) of the game edited by Barden appears on page 111-2. It was a notable gam...

Re: 2012 AGM

I read the report to mean that the e-mail competition would be an additional event? That was not my impression from a telephone conversation with Cyril today. I understand that almost all current players don't want the expense and delay of postal play. My impression was wrong. I understand that ent...

Re: 2012 AGM

I thought the main points from today's well-attended MCCU annual general meeting in relation to MCCU competitions were: 1. Revised rules about tie-breaks in the County Team competitions and the Events Director and Controller have been asked to draft a guide for team captains based on proposals origi...
