Re: 4th Millfield Open

This might be a stupid question but does 'grade' relate to standard or rapid grade?

I ask because if it goes on rapid, I'm within a grading prize category and if it goes on standard I just miss out. - It's something for me to consider before I send the entry form off.

Re: Grade please?

There's a clear dislike to being asked ones grade on this thread and in chess in general. Why? Why do people go out of their way to dodge it?

Re: Grade please?

I've taken to asking my opponents this question before a league match simply to save me time looking them up when inputting the game when I get home. The last game I played was slightly amusing as my opponent was too embarrassed to tell me his rating. It wasn’t until I got home and realised there ...

Re: Chess Book For Young Child

Richard, Just so you know - I intend buying a copy when my 3 year old daughter wants to do more than set up the board.

So far she really wants to place the second queens that come with the set somewhere on the board. She's not happy for them to just 'watch' the game :-)

It was done within an hour of the game actually - they all are. Match cards are sent to the league sec' to update the tables and to the grading officer to update the rating.

Re: British Master title (1972)

If when you see him you could confirm whether he is indeed the F. Clough who played Sergeant in the 1959 Championship, that would be good. Thanks. Sorry, I didn't read this until after I'd beaten him. From his age and the way my club mates were speaking of him I'm fairly certain he is the F. Clough...

Re: Student fees and protests/riots

I went to University a decade ago when the fees were £1000 p/a and the accom was £1500 p/a. I wasn't eligible for any form of grant as my parents' income was too great. However they opted not to support me financially, which meant I saddled the debt myself. If I had to do the same thing in the cur...

Re: British Master title (1972)

When E G Sergeant played in the British in 1959 he played against the less well known F Clough and D G Ellison who may turn out to be the English veteran player George Ellison and the Welsh veteran Fred Clough. Both these players played rated games earlier this year and would be M3s. I believe you ...

Re: Chess In Real Life

You know these skeptics who bang on about chess not being useful for anything meaningful, well I have gone and one upped the lot of them! So I am out in this bar last night, sipping a nice bit of pear koppenburg, and I suddenly realise the dancefloor has black and white squares just like a chessboa...

I can't find a crosstable or the results of the FIDE open anywhere on the LCC site. I've found a page for the 8 live games on the top boards but what about the rest of results?!

can anyone provide me a link please?
