No info - but was he bald? Used to play the Benoni, about 200 strength? Recall playing him a fair bit in my teens.
I remember playing him a lot in the mid/late nineties in local weekenders

Re: Cheating in chess

I am no expert in the matter (in fact most of us here aren't as well); but the only way, without actually having spyware on your computer, is to use the probability of strong moves made against that expected for the players strength So personally speaking if you want to play online chess you more or...

Re: Cheating in chess

Aren’t we only speculating here, nobody has seen any evidence If the algorithms/test has been done over multiple games showing a very high correlation of best moves then it is high probability some assistance has occurred I have hovered around 2200 and OTB had one good tournament where I performed a...

Re: 4NCL Online

Shouldn’t there be a variable what is the % of players who move up in the brackets; as Roger mentioned I suspect more people move up at the lower levels than higher up

How many 2200 actually make it to 2400, suspect very small; but more 1400 make it to 1600

Re: Forum usage

Since I was mentioned earlier, I am a little confused on exactly how I offended Simon I replied back to one of his posts asking for clarification of one of his points (see link for my question/statement) https://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10834&p=246231#p246231 The next thing I get is a ...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

But even so, many children have already died from it. Where are you seeing this data? In the UK only 0.01% of deaths are under 15 year old (about 4) With over 90% of all deaths have pre existing medical conditions; to the majority the disease is inconvenient, but the risk is spreading it to the vul...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

I'd rather save lives if we can. The problem was lockdown came too late. Not enough PPE initially and testing was abandoned. We also had major mass gatherings of Cheltenham Races and the Liverpool v Athletico Madrid football match. The government started with herd immunity. If we abandon lockdown a...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

I'm afraid there is no chance of life returning to normal in the North of England. That's quite a bold statement; I suspect it will return to normal sometime, when is another question Lockdown was never going to last it was just unaffordable economically If we do get a second wave, then it is likel...

There is an argument that if black runs the a pawn you may have to play Nf8 anyway

Re: What do you think - is this game for real?

Personally looking at the position the knight on e5 cannot move the rook is best placed on d7, therefore what to do with the other knight, after some relatively simple calculations Nf8 becomes obvious Yes, but Black is just screwed, so why not just play Kf3. Would you really get on to thinking abou...

Is there a link to this which is correct; the one on the ECF webpage only directs to a 2hr Arena?
