Re: What makes a chessplayer Is it inherited

Richard that is an interesting rule, although I don't tend to believe that's always the "rule of thumb", I mean for example most of the youngesters, in chess that are world class international GM's probably havn't spent 10,000 hours on chess yet in there life have they. For example Anish Giri, Ray R...

Re: What makes a chessplayer Is it inherited

So Keith you only believe coaching is employed for people to make money, I must admit I wouldn't get coaching at my age 18 now; I simply wouldn't see it as beneficial and therefore wouldn't invest in it. I am totally with you on that. " There is nothing more painful to see than a kid who is hopeless...

Re: Adjournments and Adjudication

Roger if this is so there hasn't seen to been enough complaints regarding the time control is to short otherwise it would of been changed that's ridiculous; also Roger, the point of making that analogy with "cricket does not wash with me. The reason for me saying this is because Duck- Worth lewis is...

Re: Rules about drinking alcohol before or during matches

well yes alex, I can't understand that either very strange to say the least. Why would you give a bottle of wine to a winner of tournament if it's a child. Also I haven't played in any that do give that as a prize.

Re: What makes a chessplayer Is it inherited

So you believe that you even are born with it or your not!, I find this hard to believe because some IM's never become GM's or, young players improve rapidly however I guess that's because they have the ability there in the first place.

Re: Rules about drinking alcohol before or during matches

Hey Phil, yeah fair enough your probably right! I will no doubt go back to alcohol as it seems to be a missing element in my socialising life, plus most people at 18 I know do drink to some degree. In addition to this how did you find it when you gave up did it help you psychologically I think I see...

Re: Rules about drinking alcohol before or during matches

Yes very interesting point! It's always good to see it from that prospective! I think my argument against alcohol is lost, I think I am the only chess player against it so I guess that's it!
