Re: British Championships Chess Coaching
I think the underlined problem here, is bitterness and jealousy; I for one believe Sabrina to be an excellent coach and clearly has been CBR checked as she has done the following: 1. Been teaching in schools working with children. 2. Has been doing it so long and set here own promotions and has her ...

Re: RE: prize money
Paul, One would seem your against me, I do not believe I've met you but hiding behind your computer wouldn't surprise me. My new grade should be around 169- 175, I have drawn with a 197 fide 2209 this year so far who I totally outplayed. I am confident I can play my best which I feel is around 180-1...

Re: RE: prize money
Chris I totally agree, some of them definitely deserve respect they are no push overs. I do not believe there is any tournament which is easy to win. As I said before their are a number of juniors which are very talented and I for one would treat with upmost respect. At the end of the day the best p...

Re: RE: prize money
I don't think you can expect a ameteur to win the Major Open Sabrina; You would have to perform of a relatively high standard.

Re: RE: prize money
My aim is to make money from being a total ameteur of the game of chess. Is this realistically possible. If this starts encouraging titled players I will withdraw and NEVER play it again! That on their part would just be being greedy they should play in their own standard the Main Event or nothing. ...

Cool,
By all means not out my my capable hands then.
I think even a limit of 2350 is too high for the Major Open.

Re: RE: prize money
Paul, It sounds like your too strong for this section. I do not believe it would be as a easy ride as your assuming I mean their are under- rated juniors in it for one thing; One has to play way above his rating to win the 11 round tournament, I intend to cause some upsets. Anyone know what the high...

Re: July rating list
I agree totally with you John, Back in the 1980's we had a extremely strong team with John, Nunn, Jonathan Speelman, Michael Adams, Nigel Short etc, etc. I think we are still very far behind other countries though places of course like Russia, France, I mean there is a lack of strength in depth in t...

Re: RE: prize money
Not sure that the prizes have really had any dramatic increases over the years Well, the main British Championship's prize money has gone up from £5,000 to £8,000 this year, plus an additional £2,000 prize for the English Champion. Is that not a dramatic increase? The Major Open offering £1,000...

Re: RE: prize money
I believe that the British Chess Championships, is one of the worse tournaments entry to prize fund ratio.
Not sure that the prizes have really had any dramatic increases over the years, I mean look at the Major Open it is a measley £1000 for first this has been the case for several years.
Matt.

Re: Claiming a win on time
I think at the end of the day this is not something that is brought to the attention of arbiters willy nilly unless the disruption is extreme. I'm sure that's quite true in that however extreme the provocation, it's almost always going to be even more disruptive to get an arbiter involved. That sai...

Re: Most Annoying Behaviour?
There will be a book published soon on chess etiquette if not already one in existence called " Chess Etiquette", or something called " 1000 must NOT'S in chess".
There has to be a level where NO more rules can come apparent in the game of "chess", otherwise it will ruine the game.
Matt.
