Re: 2013 British Chess Championships (Torquay)

I thought white would better in the 'munch munch' line with Nxd8. Anyway white has gone a different way.

Re: 2013 British Chess Championships (Torquay)

Does Glenn Fear have some problems here? 13..Bxe2 14.Qxe2 h6 allows 15.Nxf7.

13..Bxe2 and anything else allows Qxe4-h4 and Bishop retreats allow Bc4.

Re: Rule 10.2 (a) AGAIN then

what's correct often goes against what is sportsmanlike. To my mind, this sentence is a total contradiction though quite revealing. What I hear from it is that you feel that the laws and their correct application as it stands, allow some situations where you disagree with the validity of the result...

Re: Magnus Carlsen piece in the Guardian

Whilst I agree with Jonathan's points it's still a very poor article. You would hope a paper like the Independant would try to enlighten readers as opposed to celebrating ignorance.

Re: Why do chess players say i hardly pratice or buy chess b

Yeah, funny how they all know the latest theory though isn't it? I think it's a bit of an ego thing. Players tend to prefer being seen as 'talented' rather than hard working.

Re: First 4NCL

That is the only thing I find slightly unusual about the 4ncl - the 'lottery' type deciding factors in the divisions (one and two have the removal of scored gained and div 3 has this sum of opponents scores) which cannot be influenced by anything other then chance. It is such a good league in every...

Re: Professionals "turned away"

Which reminds me of an event elsewhere................ [Phone rings] Organiser : "Hello?" Voice : " It's ******** ***********." Organiser : "Yes." Voice : " Are you still accepting entries to the ******************?" Organiser : "Yes" Voice : " As you no doubt know, I'm a grandmaster. Is there appe...

Re: Junk Email from Tournament Organisers

@Paul, I suggested a constructive way that Adam Raoof could proceed. Secondly have you considered how someone like you or me gets onto spammers or fraudsters lists? I've been told that it's not so much the larger organisations, who are mostly regulation aware, but the little man or the smaller orga...

Re: Against the International Master

11.Kf1 certainly looks better. I don't think the endgame after 19 moves is equal, looks a lot better for black. Adam, I was about to reply you that you were wrong, then I thought that you might have been a rated player, I checked on the FIDE website and I saw that your rating is 2366!! So now I wan...

Re: Chess in Evening Standard

Given the dreadful image of chess in this country I think it's very positive indeed to have celebs like Lily Cole and Sophie Ellis Bexter turn up to an event. How well they can play is pretty irrelevant.

Re: CAS case clarification required

It is a bit rich that those who happily call a man a liar on this thread should be outraged at being called a muppet in turn - and indicative of the general level of intelligence visible so far that they should take offence when the insult was not actually uttered. But then that is how this thread ...

Re: CAS case clarification required

Andrew has put together a clear and transparent timeline of events. You may not agree with the actions that the ECF took (I certainly don't) but the board had the right to do what they did. If anyone thinks that members of the board acted improperly - a perfectly reasonable conclusion - the way to ...

Re: British Championships - Live Boards

I don't think censorship of names etc is necessary or desirable. However the insensitivity of some posters is really quite remarkable. Given the weakness of the Major Open I don't think it's surprising that many of our better juniors see the Main Championship as a better investment of time & opportu...
