Re: ECF National Secondary Schools Co-ordinator

We, as a board, make a number of decisions about ECF policy. Many of them are controversial, many will be disagreed with, and some may even be ones we ourselves will go on to disagree with. But they are all made with the interests of chess in this country at heart. It would be more appropriate if t...

Re: Rare first edtion chess books

"I have been lucky in that I got to know a rare book dealer rather well over the years who has supplied me with some very rare books on chess." I have 8-9 2nd hand shops in Edinburgh (and one in Dunfermline) who give me a ring everytime they get any Chess book in. They call me the Chess Book Guy. A...

Re: Bad news for adult players

The best way is just to give them out at the end of the competition. Otherwise you get bugged on each and every week when, inevitably, the kids lose them... The children love to wear the badges around the school out of chess club and its good for chess that the children do that. A badge is the priz...

Re: Public Statements

Me thinks another post going off topic I understand what Andrew is saying but just because something takes a lot of time does not mean it is not beneficial. If the ECF decide not to comment then this is reverting to type (if we ignore it it will go away) There is no doubt in my mind that this is a r...

Re: 100,000 posts - time to assess the benefits

At the time of writing, there have been 99,749 posts to this forum. By the time I finish the current sentence, if he's still online, Roger de Coverly will likely have propelled it past the magic number. (Better add emoticon here, or OMH might ban me) :) So the questions arise. After all this chat: ...

Re: Robin van Persie

There are still grounds for optimism. With Podolski, Giroud, and Cazorla in and only RVP out, I think we certainly are in a stronger position than this time last season. In the past, Wenger has always been pretty good at selling players at the right time and getting good fees for them. This may be ...

Re: World Junior 1-16 August 2012

A tough tournament - good luck to all our players in the next round At some time, and during the event isn't the right time, there will be a need to step back and assess just what standard is needed to be "in with a chance" at these events and how domestically players can attain that necessary stan...

Re: Role of the Manager of the British Championships

Alex and Lara are individuals in their own right and no one should assume that either one of them are making comments on behalf of the other. I support them both and have given Alex perhaps even a little more scope than I should, however there comes a point were we are in danger of repeating the sa...
