Keith Arkell wrote:'Good deed of the day' goes to Nigel Short for devoting the whole of the hour before kick-off today to voluntary coaching for the Chevannes chess initiative. :)
I do hope that was off site

Seriously thanks to Nigel I'm sure all those involved appreciated his support

Re: British Championships Chess Coaching

The future of English junior chess is assured, because all the people who complain and whinge will get together, form a new team, examine the situation as it is and transform it. It is just a question of a few months. I am looking forward to the new dawn, standing down from my post and watching it ...

Re: National Girls' Chess Championships - Success.

to question her authority and/or judgement is quite frankly despicable. And this comment is quite frankly garbage. It's never "despicable" to question authority, and the fact that you think it is quite frankly worrying. The comment is not garbage - you also need to research Harriet Hunt. Questionin...

Re: National Girls' Chess Championships - Success.

Adam Hunt says ... " Considering this was a girls event, and that the coaching was for girls I don't understand the comment and why there should be a problem with this." The problem could be if it is true that a mother taking her daughter to the event was allowed to stay in the room whereas a fathe...

Re: BBC bit on chess

Your are doing really good work Sabrina in that school helping the children to learn how to play chess. It was really nice to see the children on TV playing chess. You are also doing a lot to help young girl players get better at chess. We have seen you at Uxbridge Chess Congress giving help and enco...

Re: Does money buy success?

It is important to remember that you can only play against the team fielded.

Peter enjoyed seeing Ivor again and just resisted the offer of KFC - perhaps if the offer had been made prior to the game the result may have been different!!

Re: The future - 2011 and beyond.

Apologies Alex I have tried to respond to some points you raised on the posting and inadvertently made it appear that you had written comments which were actually my responses to your original comments! To avoid any confusion I list below my comments to Alex's post Once again sorry Can't the ECF art...

Re: The future - 2011 and beyond.

A few comments on this evening's posts: I suppose I should be amazed that a struggling organisation such as the ECF would reject the offer of someone who is quite clearly more than competent to take on both roles. If as you obviously do feel that you can commit the time then I and I am sure many ot...

Re: The future - 2011 and beyond.

We don't think that the fact that the current incumbent was elected unopposed three years running sends a message to the board that people were happy with his policies. I believe the board should have addressed the lack of candidates and the reasons for this rather than just take what was on offer,...

Re: The future - 2011 and beyond.

Of course I hope that we have a number of enthusiastic people applying in October with a wide range of policies to choose from. This may well happen. However if their policies and how they plan to execute them is not discussed, then it will just be a 'popularity contest' on the day, rather than cho...

Re: The future - 2011 and beyond.

Please note that at the April Finance meeting my attempt to change the ECF articles allowing a person to hold more than one directorship was convincingly defeated thereby ending any hopes I had of being able to be both International and Junior Director from October 2011 onwards. I suppose I should ...

I agree with Richard & Krishna - choice not force!

Whoever at the BBC decided to write this article without talking to Richard James knows nothing about children or chess!
