Re: Unanswered letter

Alan Burke wrote “I don't see why the above letter needed any reply ... it is purely someone's own opinion of the selection procedure and no doubt many, many people have their own views of such matters. If everyone wrote to the Junior Director with their views and expected a reply, he would have t...

Re: Grade please?

I've taken to asking my opponents this question before a league match simply to save me time looking them up when inputting the game when I get home. The last game I played was slightly amusing as my opponent was too embarrassed to tell me his rating. It wasn’t until I got home and realised there...

Re: Junior Selection Policy

Hi Krishna Hope you are all well Peter enjoyed talking to you at the Classic you have a lot of enthusiasm and this is an asset that the ECF needs to harness if it wishes to see Chess progress in this Country but I see no evidence that it will. This country has a lot of good players, coaches etc wit...

Re: Junior Selection Policy

As a maths teacher I have seen pupils' education suffer from being off school for 2 weeks. Obviously it depends on the pupil's age and their stage in education, what they miss, what the school does (if anything) for pupils who are absent for 2 weeks. But most of all it depends on the pupil - will t...

Re: Open Letter to the ECF about junior selection

I think Peter Purland does a noble and responsible job for British Chess. He took over the job at a very tough time and has stood firm. I back him 100%. This does not mean I agree with all the policies 100%, far from it; but that is a healthy situation. Change will come and must come and discussion...
