Re: ECF U18 / U13 County Championships 2013

Just for clarity, whose responsibilty is it to collect the money? Will the ECF collect from the parents on the day or will the junior organisation be responsible for collection and passing the monies on? Kent is in the process of checking if all their players in the U18s and U13 majors are ECF memb...

Re: Should junior only events have a separate grading system

No. You need a unified system with the adults to avoid confusion, measure progression and also to keep track of everyone (more useful to the people at the top I know, but useful nonetheless). Also, what would happen if kids played in both adult and junior - how would their grade be measured - would ...

Re: ECF National Secondary Schools Co-ordinator

I don't think so unless you are privy to information about this that I am not. Neill articulated his reasons for resigning here. I've not seen any correspondence from him apart from this, either pre or post his resignation, where he has put his views and / or suggested alternatives. In that case, m...

Re: Why are junior organisers against ECF membership?

you'll see that I said we should "perhaps attach less weight" to the views of non-experts. I did not say that we should dismiss their views. I see your words that you have written here and I see the comments you have made on the relevant threads and it does seem to me that you are dismissing their ...

Re: Why are junior organisers against ECF membership?

I'm sorry if you find it offensive that I suggest we look at the track record of those people that some would choose to describe as experts. Maybe they are indeed experts, but wouldn't it be better to check? If they are, we should listen to them. If they're not then perhaps we should attach less we...

Re: ECF National Secondary Schools Co-ordinator

I have resigned from my post as ECF National Secondary Schools Co-ordinator. Neill, you're doing a great job. I do not think that you should resign over this. The chess playing kids of England need you where you are. I have seen a real revival in secondary chess since you began and brought your ent...

Re: Alan Burke

there have been occasions when I've felt that his contributions were blunt and undiplomatic. To say the least. Also he is rude and mean and calls people names such as 'prat'. IMO he does not treat anyone who disagrees with him with respect. Just because he is running successful chess tournaments an...

Re: World Youth 2012 - Maribor, Slovenia

At any event like this there will always be players who do well and players who do badly. However, my impression was that overall the English squad did well. This is not based on any particular metric, but just watching relatively closely as the results came in. One advantage of sending such a big ...

Did Matthew not get a medal? I thought the top 8 got prizes/medals? Is it only top 3 for medals?
What are the prizes for the rest? (ie 4th to 8th)

Sorry for confusion!

Re: World Youth 2012 - Maribor, Slovenia

For this reason, as I have suggested before, just holding one's rating is quite a good result, especially in the lower age groups. I agree with this. A big well done to Oskar for far surpassing this - making his performance truly outstanding. ....and this event actually seems to be like most of the...

Re: World Youth 2012 - Maribor, Slovenia

Superb results by a super team. You can really see a strong future for English Junior Chess from the very strong U8 performance (by all three entrants) all the way through each age group to our titled player at the top in the U18s. We have strength and depth which will only become stronger with each...
