Re: World Youth 2012 - Maribor, Slovenia

Super win by Matthew on the live boards, controlled his time beautifully and played superbly - well done Matthew!

(Not quite finished yet, but soon will be...:)...)

Re: World Youth 2012 - Maribor, Slovenia

Noticed something interesting/unusual. In the U12 Open, four out of the top six are all American (we are in round 8 now). Are the Americans doing something special now regards their junior chess? Does anyone know? Hillary, could you ask them for us? :) :) They seemed to have upped the ante in the y...

Re: World Youth 2012 - Maribor, Slovenia

Peter,

When did you guys go? That sounds awesome! We need somewhere like the Central Park set up here - but with the weather, I guess it has to be indoors like in a coffee shop or something?

Re: World Youth 2012 - Maribor, Slovenia

On live feed 1, you can see the back of Ananth Balaji's head and his side profile each time he turns.

It is interesting watching the two live feeds and seeing all the movement!

Re: World Youth 2012 - Maribor, Slovenia

Yehhhhhhh! Everyone off the mark on round 3! Looks like there are some very under graded juniors amongst our opposition?

Thanks Jim and Hilary for the regular updates/report and posting photo - much appreciated. Congrats to the team as a whole for a strong start and good luck to everyone for the rest of the tournament!

Re: 4NCL November 3-4 round-up

Krishna It's certainly an interesting thought. Back at the start of the 4NCL Nigel Johnson used to produce a bulletin after each weekend including reports and annotated games. Again, I know not quite what you have in mind - there were no photos and it wasn't a once-a-season production - but I think...

Re: 4NCL November 3-4 round-up

For the junior events, didn't the money just come from the families of those sent? Indeed. Though that is not my point. (Though it was at the time because junior chess is self financing - another thread I believe). Having a commentary room is commonplace at the British Championship Congress, the Lo...

Re: 4NCL November 3-4 round-up

Yes, I think so. No doubt Stewart did all this 30 years ago but this model works well for the British League and could do for chess. Apart from being a voting member, the 4NCL is independent of the ECF. So who is going to organise, and pay for a publicity team in the absence of the millions that ET...

Ahh - I see table tennis. Are you suggesting a possible model for the ECF?

Re: 4NCL November 3-4 round-up

Not sure which Chris you are referring to here, but in case it was me, I didn't take any photos. I linked to an online version of Lawrence's report illustrated with photos (the photographer isn't credited), and I also linked in another thread (the one started by John Upham) to some pictures taken b...
